Very small margin for error, THAT's the story ....

Manny in CA : 12/4/2022 6:36 pm

Eight roster players out; more significantly, four starters that have made a difference - McKinney, Jackson, Holmes, Ezeudu. (Brightwell was active but probably not feeling well enough to help Saquon run the ball).

As was noted by Johnathan Vilma, Rivera & Del Rio smelled "blood in the water" and went right after practice player Zyon Gilbert over-and-over (no Jackson or Holmes) to slow things down.

I don't understand the gripping over Slayton's dropped pass, he did a great job catching it in traffic, till he slammed hard into the ground, If the ball hadn't come out, it would have been a SportsCenter highlight.

Feliciano's taunting penalty snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. This team is not good enough to get away with stupid.

You talking about. He was as open as you can hope for. That is a routine catch not a highlight reel catch

Were the better team today. We made so many stupid mistakes. I think we were lucky to tie.

Let’s hope Leo is healthy for next week.

If he were 6-5 it would have been a routine catch.
I m not completely defending Feliciano
Blue21 : 12/4/2022 6:44 pm : link
because I was livid with him at the time. But I was corrected that he wasn't taunting the defense but actually cheating the great play. What gets me is all the stupid crap they allow after TDs and interceptions with the whole defense running down the field they throw a flag for this when the intention wasn't to taunt the D is just BS . Lesson learned and too bad the vet player did it and it IMO cost us a win.
We have no margin for error. That’s true
BillT : 12/4/2022 6:44 pm : link
It more than that. We have no margin for error and we need virtually all the big plays to go our way. This record with this talent is pretty remarkable.
Try catching 10 feet + in the air ...
Manny in CA : 12/4/2022 6:49 pm : link

And coming down hard on your back, and controlling the ball when you hit (every time) - then, have somebody sniveling about it (I don't think the coaching staff is going to do that).

I don't think its a routine catch. He had a worse miss earlier where he didn't fight through the defender. He could've probably gotten a PI at a minimum.
I agree that injuries are tough
JerrysKids : 12/4/2022 6:55 pm : link
but I can guarantee you every team has lost a lot of players this year, It's the nature of football. I think today they had a lot of starters back in the lineup so they really can't say that is a factor today.

We’re without our top three WR and five of out top six DBs. Missing two of our top four DL, our starting TE hadn’t played in a month and our starting OLB hadn’t played in two months. Yeah, no factor at all. Unbelievable.

If you're an NFL receiver, you say that's a catch you have to make. It hit both of his hands. Not every catch made is easy.
Ok
g56blue10 : 12/4/2022 7:11 pm : link
Let’s not say routine but it doesn’t qualify as a hard catch either
Manny’s last line pretty much sums up the day.
Spider56 : 12/4/2022 7:29 pm : link
Taunting = stupid = margin for error that turns games.
It was a routine catch
giantBCP : 12/4/2022 7:31 pm : link
Lack of ball skills made it appear more difficult than it needed to be.

I think a lot of it was the fact that he ran to a location where there were several defensive players before his move.

Who all seemed to disregard him except the ref.
Remember Slayton is like a number 4 receiver
kelly : 12/4/2022 7:59 pm : link
on a good team.

So not making that catch is unfortunately understandable
Slayton was a 4th or 5th round pick

That people seem to expect way too much from.

Hes actually really strong depth on a good team.

It’s really interesting though, I can’t think of a player at this level who lacks the ability to catch like this. I always think of Bill Wash (in Finding the Winning Edge I believe) saying that when scouting WRs, their ability to catch isn’t something you look for because all college WRs more or less have good hands. Slayton would be a superstar if he had a skillset that’s taken for granted at this level.

1000%
The opposing qb is going up against a shit nyg secondary
djm : 12/4/2022 9:01 pm : link
And our qb is throwing to a trash heap group of wrs. Bless their heart they all play hard, even slayton who can be frustrating is a success story. Guy is a 5th round pick who will last in the nfl. Rick James is a walk on talent who will earn good money as an nfl wr. But they can’t be the prominent wrs on an nfl team. The corners we put out there on D are of the same ilk. Every week we’re up against THAT nearly impossible to overcome problem yet so many go right to Daniel Jones when he doesn’t clearly outplay the opposing QB.

The OL is ok. Maybe ok. Jones has a guy breaking down on him nearly every play but ok fine, we can stop with the excuses if it makes some of you happy and say that the worst OL in the east is “ok.” Fine.

I give up. But I’ll say it again, some of you better make peace with Daniel jones as the nyg QB because he’s probably going to be back next season. And he probably should be.

Jones is making chicken salad out of shit. 20 ppg is not good, but it’s not terrible either and we’d be terrible if we had a turd at qb.

It’s Thomas at LT. Barkley at rb. Jones at qb. Neal is a young player to watch. Huge upside but a rookie. Gates who knows. Bellinger is back ok cool. And that’s IT. Everyone else is virtually worthless.

On D it’s the two young edges. Lawrence and Williams. Ward is a hard worker but doesn’t really give the D any kind of advantage. Love at safety. Nothing else until jackson and C come back.

That’s it. That’s everyone worthy of any kind of praise.

Did you see Boyd drop a Td for Cin
Kanavis : 12/4/2022 9:07 pm : link
Hit him right in the chest for a walk on TD. Dropped. And yet Slayton is a bum for a not making a highlight reel catch? Good WRs drop more than you think. He was asked post game why he didn't run through and perhaps paused a bit necessitating the jump. But the catch itself was very tough.

I don't know who is arguing that it wasn't a tough catch. He did all the hard parts well - he was open, adjusted for the ball well, caught it at the highest point, etc. The embarrassing part is that he failed to secure the ball, the routine part of the catch.

The more frustrating part is that Slayton is doing this on a weekly basis. He's too inconsistent. The drops are happening too often.
I thought
Joe Beckwith : 12/5/2022 1:40 am : link
The Slayton drop was when he prepared to land and attempted to stick the ball in his belly but the thighs came up to help deaden the falls impact and jarred it loose and he couldn’t resecure it.
Agree
jeff57 : 12/5/2022 5:18 am : link
There is little oom for error. And stupidity. And that includes having your best corner returning punts and your best safety getting a hurt driving an ATV.

OK great. And he still isn't that good and when he's the best WR on the team and the division is stacked with talent Darius Slayton won't do as you're #1 WR.
