Thibs sack revisited

BH28 : 12/4/2022 8:56 pm
Obviously when you tie, every play is under a microscope, so wanted to revisit the Thibs sack in OT.

Just watched the play a few times and instead of using his right arm to try and force a strip, he just puts his right forearm into Heineke's back.

I'm sure he was just seeing dead red unblocked like that, but I hope he watches a few LT games and learns the art of the strip sack.

Again it's not a criticism of his play, just an observation of something I hope he adds to his game.
That play was so close

To a safety and win.
I winder if he thought Heinecki was in the endzone

he also probably wanted to make sure he got the sack he didnt want to get cute with trying to strip him..
He had him tee’d up

That needs to be a fumble there…
He looked like

A top 5 pick today
It's the difference between being a great player and being a superstar

I thought the exact same thing watching the play in real time.

He's improving real real fast though which is awesome to see, and I expect him to reach Superstar level. I think he can be as good as Parsons, just not right this second.
They’ll work

a lot this off-season on moves and build up his confidence on getting to the QB more regularly when our LB and secondary cover receivers one second longer once we draft a few players.
Til then we are what we are, and he is what he is.
At the time

I yelled for a strip. But I can't fault the guy for making a clean tackle.

I'm glad he got the sack and all...but if any DE doesn't make that

play, they should be immediately cut. He was completely unblocked and Heinecke had no idea he was coming.
Sad thing is

If he strips him and the ball bounces in the end zone, the Giants win because it’s a safety if Washington recovers, and it’s a TD if we recover.

I wanted the old tomahawk LT chop there.
It's a quirky thing

Hard to criticize the play but it felt like a bit of a missed opportunity. I'm sure he feels it. I mean I hope he does anyway, a competitor would. Glad he got one though, the numbers have been hard to come by even tho he's been playing well. Good set of tackles next week, would be great to see him build on it.
I agree 100% and don't think it's nitpicking at all.

.
I was hoping KT would have forced a fumble

Something related me if it were Azeez it would have been.

have to give Heinike credit... most QBs would have fumbled there. Thibodeaux rocked him.

Definitely did a good job hanging on. Don't want to make it sound like I'm shitting on Thibs but he doesn't look very big or powerful out there. I understand he's a rookie and I'm glad he didn't get penalized for like...touching the QB's head...but a lot of Edge rushers would have obliterated Heinecke there...he was 100% unblocked and unseen.

We'll have to disagree on this. I thought KT rocked him.

Yup. Some guys just seem to be naturally better at it.

He was rocked and I'm shocked the ball didn't come loose.

He‘d push him into the endzone but make it look natural. We win then.

That’s how I saw it too. Thibs went for the big hit, got it and I really thought he’d fumble because of the force of the hit. I was surprised Heinike held onto it.

Thibs had a couple of really good hits on Heinike in the game and looks better and better each week.

Next week should be a big test going up against the Eagles OL and looking forward to seeing what he and Azeez do.
Yes need to do what LT
mdthedream : 12/5/2022 7:31 am : link
did everytime the arm over the top swat sack. Ball comes out goes into the endzone and we win even if Washington recovered. That said nice job of the QB hanging on to that ball.
expecting
pjcas18 : 12/5/2022 8:33 am : link
the defender to do something more to separate the ball there is like saying "couldn't the police have just shot him in the leg", it's so easy to suggest "couldn't he have just...." but not so easy in real life.

It's not an expectation, it's just an observation of something he can work on technique wise to bring his game to next level.
