It's going to be a long off season.

Fully believe in the front office and coaching. Daboll hasn't been a HC before but he's miles ahead of Judge in that regard. He's going to make mistakes. I know they'll fix things and address what needs they have through the draft and development. It's these games that they pooped the bed in that have all of us thinking "what could have been". Only the most delusional among us think they were making noise in the post season. I don't think they get there. Not if they keep this garbage up. This season has flown by.
2023….

New field turf….lots of deadwood cast aside…..braintrust gets first real chance at fielding an unencumbered roster…..new bye week rules including no atv’s, being shot out of cannons, no hand feeding sharks, fighting in Ukraine…etc….new draft picks, KT a year stronger/faster/smarter……go giants!

I'm not too concerned with Dabs as I'm hoping the conservative play calling is due to the lack of talent. Now as far as the talent is concerned, this is where Schoen will be under the microscope. I'm concerned that we have quite a few needs that I'm not sure is possible to get resolved in one offseason. It feels like we have several roster needs (QB, WRs, interior Oline, all LB positions, edge rusher maybe, and definitely CB). With them having to pay Dex and one of either 26 or DJ with the tag being a possibility, I'm not sure if they will have free agent $ to tackle multiple positions with starters.

It will be interesting to see how Schoen can improve this roster.

It's easier to gamble and make aggressive calls when everybody thinks your team is headed for a 4-13 season and you have nothing to lose. When you're in the playoff hunt, the stakes are a lot bigger. Daboll and Kafka have to be feeling that pressure.

Also, at this point in the season, 1) the staff has a better idea of what the players are good at and bad at, and 2) everybody's banged up, even if they are dressing for the games. The interior OL has been hit by injuries and has been straight-up bad. The major playmakers — Barkley, Jones, Bellinger, Slayton — have been hurt or sick. So yes, agree that lack of talent is a big thing, whether it's because the roster they inherited wasn't very good or because of injuries.
Just enjoy the ride.

You know the negatives: Injuries to starters, backups, backups to back ups makes for no continuity ; no receiving corps if Slayton is your #1…
Most BBI were expecting 4-8 wins , most closer to the 4 than the 8.
The players are out talented except for about 8-10 of the 22.
We may have a new backfield after the draft, and 7-11 new player, at least 3 likely starters.
Given everything , stuck at 7Ws would suck, but 8 means an unexpected .500 season.
Just look forward.
Actually, I think this offseason is going to be kind of fun

This admin has major decisions to make at RB and QB, which will be endlessly debated. Then, the decisions they make at QB will affect what they do in the draft.

Lots of big-time things going on that will determine the direction of the team for years. Exciting stuff!

My initial take is they are going to clean house of anyone who will not be on the next super bowl team, so that includes Barkley (unless he's cheap) and Jones.
Yeah, I think it’s going to be fun

I have a lot of confidence in Schoen and think he will continue to upgrade the roster.

Shoen has made some efficient and smart moves with no cap space to acquire real FA help. So with one hand tied behind his back.

Dabol is making a great chicken salad out of chicken shit. I can't wait till these guys clean house and use their 24' resource to start cooking some filet mignon.
I think

there's going to be a fair amount of roster movement, but there'll be players kept that some of you guys will hate. I think some of the players that have taken their lumps will be better for it, some will be obvious roster casualties. FA can help ameliorate some of the weak areas, and the draft is going to be huge, of course. The coaches have learned a lot, so I expect good things going forward.

JMHO
The original line of your post was definitely a little doom and gloom

but I feel about the same. I don't see too many more victories but I'm happy with the progress of the team, the staff and the FO. I think there will be some turnover and while I see a TON of holes, I'm sure Schoen and Daboll see capable backups. We are in a very perplexing situation with Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. But someone who HAS proved his worth is Dexter Lawrence. SIGN HIM FIRST! Then figure out the other two. I think DJ is capable and above average, but again his durability makes me hesitant to pay him. Barkley flashes so brightly then fades just as well. I think it may be smart to cut bait with him and not take on a larger contract at a position that can be filled more readily and helped to excel with improved OL, which would improve our QB no matter who that is next year. Long off season in the way that I can't wait for them to get back out there after reloading!
Coaching
Hokiejacket : 12/5/2022 5:18 pm : link
I am less concerned about coaching moving forward. I think it's much easier to coach when expectations are low. Now that a playoff spot is "possible" I think it makes sense now to limit mistakes and not beat yourself.
Schoen will have his hands full this offseason
AcesUp : 12/5/2022 5:24 pm : link
It's going to be more difficult than last year imo. The landscape isn't pretty at QB and WR. One of our best players in Barkley is a FA at a position that historically busts on the 2nd contract. There's going to be 1 or 2 thin moves made out of necessity, you just hope they make the right calculated gambles but have some hedges in place in how they attack/structure these things.
The most important thing
Jerry in_DC : 12/5/2022 9:15 pm : link
Is that this administration seems smart enough not to chase the hot start to this year. They're going to be under more external pressure than they would've planned because some fan expectations will be raised.

But I think they recognize that this is a long term job. They'll make moves to upgrade for next year but they realize that next year is not really the year. It was a deep, dark hole they walked into. Hopefully we will be getting to a real competitive level in 24 and 25.
Actually it won’t be long. Typically the team would already be

eliminated and we would already talking about offseason needs to fix this train wreck.

Enjoy the next 5 weeks and maybe a 6th.

And then we can pick up the train wreck discussions.
The Giants have far exceeded my expectations

almost every week the opponent has a more talented roster.

Which position group on the Giants would Washington swap with them? QB? maybe? RB? no. WRs? no. TE? no. OTs yes. C & Gs? no. DL? no. OLBs? yes. ILBs no. CBs? no. S yes (McKinney healthy).

Which position group on the Giants would Philadelphia swap with them? QB? no. RB? no. WRs? no. TE? no OTs yes. C & Gs? no. DL? no. OLBs? yes. ILBs no. CBs? no. S yes (McKinney healthy).

Which position group on the Giants would Dallas swap with them? QB? no. RB? no. WRs? no. TEs? no. OTs yes. C & Gs? no. DL? no. OLBs? no. ILBs no. CBs? no. S yes (McKinney healthy).

My thoughts/guess on potential 2022-2023 off season based on what I've heard from Schoen and Daboll and how the Bills were built even though they were not the final decision makers.

QB - start over with a rookie & Taylor - Maybe get a comp pick?
RB - start over with a cheap rookie & cheap FAs/UDFAs - Maybe get a comp pick?
WR - Vet added in FA. probable multiple draft picks
TE - Vet added in FA. possible draft pick
OTs - current strong position
Gs - Vet added in FA. possible draft pick
C - Vet added in FA. possible draft pick

DL - Vet added in FA. probable draft picks
ILB - Vet added in FA. probable draft pick
OLB - current strong position
CB - Vet added in FA. probable draft pick
S - current strong position (but Love is a FA)

Punter - Upgrade desperately needed IMO.
Kicker - current strong position
