Too cute play calls

Hilary : 12/5/2022 8:01 pm
Hard to criticize DJ or coaching for not beating the commies. They had a tough game in sight if Feliciao keeps his cool. But crucial plays

against Lions on 4th and 1 they put Jack Anderson in the backfield where he probably never played before

Yesterday on key third down play at the 45 or 50 they put Brieda and Barkley in motion and Breida ran into Jones.

At key points I would opt to keep it simple with things they do well like a short throw rpo option or run with Barkley or DJ.
I think it was

James who ran into Barkley. But yeah, not the play to run at that time if all the participants aren't well versed
.

They made a comment on the broadcast that James was suppose to go behind DJ and it was a RPO with Barkley and pass to James to the left if the run was not there. My opinion is James cost them another game.
cute play calls

are a major reason this team with limited talent has 7 wins. They need the deception. James just shouldn't have run into Barkley.
I was thinking the opposite

The James in the backfield was a disaster but

- our receivers can't consistently beat their man and have trouble catching.
- The line isn't giving Barkley the push/holes they did earlier in the year and Barkley is missing a gear.
- Defenses are more aware of Jones running.

I think they need more misdirection and was disappointed that they didn't use Breida more in the backfield on reverses with Barkely as a decoy.
Waiting on this Play

I don’t think the play call was too cute

It was poorly executed, if James didn’t run into Barkley there was a lot of open space.

I don't know if cute is the best term, but obviously they did not practice that play enough for it to be used if the participants didn't know what to do.

haha - I don't know about that play for the Giants, but it sure worked there and that's a great college FB video.
It reflects poor coaching

The thing that amazes me about Andy Reid is not just his play calling and imagination, but that he gets his guys to execute all those different plays.

And our guy completely screws up with the game on the line (again).
We have terrible receivers and the interior OL was not blocking well

I think you can argue the play call (the one James bothched) was fine, it was schemed to give us three options, Barkley run, Jones run or pass to James. It was just a botched execution by Ritchie James.
The only thing that makes a play call good or bad
Biteymax22 : 12/6/2022 8:28 am : link
Is execution. If these plays work people would be on here talking about what a genius Kafka is etc...

Unfortunately when you have marginal talent, they fail to execute even simple assignments.

Yes and no. If you know you have marginal talent and you are installing a "new" play, then you practice it several times during the week and make sure the correct sub package is on the field.
With all the chicken shit on this roster
SirLoinOfBeef : 12/6/2022 8:55 am : link
it's absolutely amazing these cooks can create anything close to chicken salad.
2 guys probably shouldn't run into each other
AcesUp : 12/6/2022 9:10 am : link
That's the big issue. Maybe that's on coaching idk. There's a weird thing where people are turning on the coaching a little when we're still 7-4-1 with one of the lowest 2022 spend of any team and a bottom third roster (at best). Some judgement is a little clouded because of the hot start and good luck early on in the year. This is what regression to the mean looks like. Those "cute plays" that resulted in game winning plays like Bellinger scoring on a trick play are now the coaches getting too cute when they are botched by the players.
That second deep pass....
bluewave : 12/6/2022 9:48 am : link
Looked like a designed pass to try and get a PI call. If it was, then shame on Kafka. A crap way to try and move the ball.
7-4-1

with the talent on this team is a very good record.
