All the ravens podcasters said he was a little slow of foot for tackle but would make a great guard. They were mad the ravens gave up on him so quickly.
We already saw him be okay at RT this year. There is no way on earth he could be worse than Glowinski at RG. Plus him and Neal together would make that side a huge running lane.
Gates at center, Phillips at guard with Bredeson maybe on the other side is a very acceptable line with very good run blocking.
If the Giants see something in Phillips at guard, I would expect to see him get a shot next year if he is retained. In the meantime, for whatever is left of this season, the best combo of Ezeudu/Gates/Bredeson/Feliciano/Glowinski should play.

Pretty certain the Giants cross train almost all OL at T and G positions, and a few at C. Would not be surprised if Phillips has practiced some at RG.

for a player who hasn't played G before (this I am not sure of...) is hardly an easy transition. Body position in run blocking and pass block techniques are completely different. It's not plug-and-play across the OL.

Maybe more in the summer (which wouldn’t be relevant for Phillips) but outside of swing guys like Gates, I don’t think the Giants are actually getting starters reps at different positions along the OL with the limited practice time available at this point in the season.
IMO more likely would be players like Peart and Phillips practicing at LT/RT, or as an extra TE, rather than doing an OT/OG rotation.
He is our third best linemen right now behind Neal and Thomas.
Either Neal or Phillips should be the right guard the other the right tackle. We need our best o linemen in the game down the stretch.
Going from right tackle to right guard is not a difficult transition. To play right tackle you have to know what the right guard is doing. Also you can be less athletic and play right guard at a high level.
In addition Gates should be at center. He was never that good at guard. Center was by far and away his best position.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Feliciano and Glow are not getting it done. Staying pat means you can expect the same poor results. Change may not be an improvement but is might be. Changing up the o line may yield better results at this point it is worth trying. If nothing else we can see how well Phillips plays at guard, which will help us in the future whether to spend draft picks on a guard.
To be fair, at this point the receivers are handicapping it worse than the OL is.
