Baker Mayfield? (No, I'm not the one suggesting him)

DanMetroMan : 12/6/2022 11:03 am
"The Panthers released quarterback Baker Mayfield on Monday. All teams have until 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday to make a waivers claim for the balance of Mayfield’s contract.

It’s five games, at a total financial investment of $1.349 million.

There are three categories of teams that could be interested. One, teams that would want him to play this year. Two, teams that would want to take advantage of the opportunity to spend five weeks with him, in order to evaluate whether to try to sign him for 2023. Three, teams that will want to keep him from landing with a rival.

Against that background, here are the teams to perhaps keep an eye on, in order of waiver priority.

Giants: Daniel Jones is due to be a free agent. Who will their quarterback be in 2023? That said, claiming Mayfield would likely end the pursuit of OBJ, immediately."

His ceiling was an unathletic Russel Wilson

Now we get to see clearly what an old unathletic Wilson is like.
4th

Seems like Florio missed a 4th category- a team that wants a solid backup QB. That’s the role Mayfield belongs in.

I’m not sure why the Giants are mentioned, they have Taylor, who Id consider the better QB.
Florio = idiot

lmao I think most teams would be overjoyed if their rival signed the worst QB in football.

with a rival?
Admittingly,

I haven't watched him a ton these past few years, but early Mayfield was pretty good. Curious what happened? Did teams just learn how to play him? Did he lose confidence? Was his rookie season a farce?

I've heard things like the Rams were interested (on earlier on the waiver wire) to keep him away from SF. But come on man its the guy who embarrassingly lost out to Darnold.

"Worst QB in football", I guess that means Glennon has either retired or no one has signed him.

it'd be funny to see him land with Houston

He’s not good. He has always been inaccurate. You also have to look at the cast of players he was surrounded with when you look at some of his early success. The Browns have had a solid/good line for the last 4-5 years, one of the best RB duos in the league with Chubb and Hunt, they had Landry and OBJ at WR, as well as Njoku and Austin Hooper at TE.

If you put a lot of other QB’s in with that lineup they would have taken that team a lot further than Mayfield did. Odell’s Dad wasn’t that far off base with that video he made. I remember watching Browns games and wondering why the hell Mayfield could never seem to hit OBJ who was seemingly always open.

Really depends on what Daboll thinks of him

been saying this guy is crap for years
djm : 12/6/2022 11:57 am : link
he had one good year when the system and talent around him was nothing short of elite. He never helps an offense. HE's merely along for the ride. TO top it off he's a jerkoff.
Thread brings up a good point.

What the F does Florio do well? The guy is like a tub stain on Chris Simms' weekly pickem episode "Team X is going to bounce back and show them what they're made of". Makes me want to puke. "Pasta and meatballs". Go F yourself.

Rant concluded.
if you look at the article

he reviews half the league as landing spots. And the Giant writeup may have been the most lukewarm of them all.

And let's face it, if you're going to be a jerkoff you better back it up.

He can't.
Baker just doesn't look good

I don't think so. You should see how frantic Ryan gets when the idea of Washington signing Jones comes up.
