Money being thrown at CFB players in portal this week is incredible. Have heard upwards of $5M+ for some skill players. It has considerably thinned-out QB class for 2023 NFL Draft.
Is coming out over staying in for 5 million.
This is good for college football because kids are staying for their senior year instead of being a later draft pick.

Even any second rounder. You’re getting a 4 year deal with $1.1 million signing bonus, plus a year closer to your second contract.
Playing college football is really fun and that being a multi millionaire football player on campus...
And dumbass Goodell expanded to 17 games and more playoff games to grind you into dust if you're not getting horrifically concussed on national TV on Thursday night football.

1,000%. Granted, Goodell represents the owners, but he hatches a lot of the ideas.
Anybody who think the owners sincerely care about the health and welfare of the players are naive. The players are very profitable, dispensable widgets. I can guarantee you the next stop is 18 games.
I have said it hundreds of times. The NFLPA is not a good union for our biggest sport. They have been rolled time and time again by some very smart owners...

Not to cast too wide a net or paint every wealthy person this way, but the wealthy usually don't give a fuck about people, in general. Some aren't so bad of course, and most might come off as somewhat benevolent but they aren't our friends. Any owner getting into the NFL for the money is dangerous to the NFL players and employees.
"big time" college football being "amateur athletics" and is anything but a minor league for the NFL?
Your takeaway from this development is that it college football is a minor league for the NFL? Given the NIL money and average NFL career length, CFB is turning into more of a competitor league than a minor league imv.
I think they've got a more enjoyable product right now too.

When the rich get richer, how is that good for CFB? How do you build a program in this environment without big-time program money?

Oh yeah, great for the players. High profile football player with a multi-million dollar bankroll at say, well, pick a school? Oh man, that lifestyle, I'd leave school for the NFL at 30, lol.

It's at the point where I suspect the NFLPA is a fake union and its leadership is owned by the owners.
NFL players are different from MLB players and harder to organize.
MLB players have spent years in the minors, riding buses and playing in front of small crowds, out of the spotlight. They see themselves as workers and they have a bond. When MLB talks about a strike, very few players resist or break the strike.
The average career of an NFL player is shorter than the average time MLB players spend in the minors. Football is more hierarchical than baseball. Football players are trained to do whatever the coach says; baseball players, less so. Also, a lot of NFL players have been treated like stars since high school.
Lower-level NFL players are fearful for their longevity and are worried about being replaced. Higher-level players don't necessarily see the lower-level guys as peers. NFL stars will break a strike. (LT did.)
It's also fairly ridiculous to think of "replacement" MLB players. That's called AAA and nobody would go. The 1987 replacement player games proved that the NFL can play scabs and keep the TV money flowing.
