I'm not sure these deals are as bad as one thinks, provided the player is still producing at the end of the contract. 40M in 2033 will look a lot different than it does in 2023. Remember, most of us old timers were aghast at Catfish Hunter receiving a five-year deal worth about $3.2 million, along with a $1 million signing bonus in the winter of 1975. Think it was actually NYE when it was completed.

After Dumb brow ski saddled JH with a Price, and even worse Sale contract, Betts was unaffordable , and they were fortunate to find a buyer.
I have no idea what they are doing there( maybe the Penguins are JHsnew play toy) because they’ve drafted 5 SS under Bloom with homegrown Pitching their biggest weakness.

As a consultant, I have to pay State/local income tax in every state I provide services in for the portion of my income I earned in that state for the tax year. I believe it is the same for professional Athletes.

Benitendi settled in when he was moved to the leadoff spot. They had him batting sixth after the trade and he really took off hitting higher in the order. I think he is a perfect leadoff hitter for this team, great contact and hits the gaps well.

That is correct. I know someone who was an offensive lineman in the NFL back in the 2000's. Professional sports is considered to be entertainment, so therefore the athletes must pay taxes in the states in which they are playing or "performing", if you will. He did remark that they always loved it on the schedule when there were multiple road games in Florida in the same season.
I'm assuming this holds true for the other pro sports, and if that's the case, that's a ton of filing for the duration of those seasons and the multiple trips made to same cities.
Prefer Yoshida as well- OBP machine who has a decent amount of power- and is a lefty bat to boot. In Japan, he walked about 2-3 times more often than he struck out. Even if better velocity and stuff means that it fades to 1:1, that's still outstanding in today's day and age.
Add in the change with defensive shifts, and he could have some serious upside.

Benitendi settled in when he was moved to the leadoff spot. They had him batting sixth after the trade and he really took off hitting higher in the order. I think he is a perfect leadoff hitter for this team, great contact and hits the gaps well.
He's a strange player. Saw a lot of him being in New England. He should be better than he is.
He does get on base where he proceeds to go station to station. He's got a hole in his swing high and on the outer part of the plate. He has a hard time judging that pitch. He has no power and steals few bases.
There's a reason the Red Sox gave him away and they know him best and KC unloaded him mid-season. He's an ok fielder, not bad, not great. He's a middling piece. Don't expect much or you will disappointed.

I'm not sure these deals are as bad as one thinks, provided the player is still producing at the end of the contract. 40M in 2033 will look a lot different than it does in 2023. Remember, most of us old timers were aghast at Catfish Hunter receiving a five-year deal worth about $3.2 million, along with a $1 million signing bonus in the winter of 1975. Think it was actually NYE when it was completed.

I rather have him than Benny myself. I don't know why people want Benny back. He is now a singles hitter, not the type of hitter he was with Boston. He makes contact, but a lot of SOFT contact. After Dumb brow ski saddled JH with a Price, and even worse Sale contract, Betts was unaffordable , and they were fortunate to find a buyer.
I have no idea what they are doing there( maybe the Penguins are JHsnew play toy) because they’ve drafted 5 SS under Bloom with homegrown Pitching their biggest weakness.
Yanks did well to bring back a player like AJ who wants to be there and has good character.

IMV, Benintendi can be close to a .300 hitter for the Yankees and a plus LF defender.
I just think he never settled in last year when he was traded to the team.
Benitendi settled in when he was moved to the leadoff spot. They had him batting sixth after the trade and he really took off hitting higher in the order. I think he is a perfect leadoff hitter for this team, great contact and hits the gaps well.

If Judge had signed with SF who is to say he might not have been on the 49ers sidelines wearing their jersey next year. It's the first time he has been reported to be at a Bucs game, odd for a star athlete living in the town. How many Rangers and Knicks games have Yankees been seen at over the last few years. His attendance, and wearing a #13 jersey, was his way of thanking Mike Evans for putting on a #99 jersey at a Bucs game after Judge set the HR record. As a consultant, I have to pay State/local income tax in every state I provide services in for the portion of my income I earned in that state for the tax year. I believe it is the same for professional Athletes.
That is correct. I know someone who was an offensive lineman in the NFL back in the 2000's. Professional sports is considered to be entertainment, so therefore the athletes must pay taxes in the states in which they are playing or "performing", if you will. He did remark that they always loved it on the schedule when there were multiple road games in Florida in the same season.
I'm assuming this holds true for the other pro sports, and if that's the case, that's a ton of filing for the duration of those seasons and the multiple trips made to same cities.
Prefer Yoshida as well- OBP machine who has a decent amount of power- and is a lefty bat to boot. In Japan, he walked about 2-3 times more often than he struck out. Even if better velocity and stuff means that it fades to 1:1, that's still outstanding in today's day and age.
Add in the change with defensive shifts, and he could have some serious upside.

And BTW, this statement is simply wrong. You are not subject to NY state income tax if you buy a property in NY and spend 30 days a year there, not even close. The actual standard:

I'm happy for Taillon. I had him in my fantasy league and so watched his starts like a hawk. I still couldn't tell you exactly what he is as a pitcher, but obviously he has the heart of a lion.

He does get on base where he proceeds to go station to station. He's got a hole in his swing high and on the outer part of the plate. He has a hard time judging that pitch. He has no power and steals few bases.
There's a reason the Red Sox gave him away and they know him best and KC unloaded him mid-season. He's an ok fielder, not bad, not great. He's a middling piece. Don't expect much or you will disappointed.

He's not really a power hitter. He's only hit 20 once, and it was just 20.
Crazy enough compared to the last few years, I think the staff is almost there. 3rd lowest ERA last year (4th for starters, 3rd for relievers).
If they can add a Rodon, they could be in the running for the best staff in baseball - certainly a top 5 one.

I’d be worried if Judge had a body like Steve Balboni- but he’s actually a lean chiseled player who carries his weight proportionally. Yes- his knees will wear down over time- as tends to happen playing oF daily. But he’ll likely transition to DH down the road to reduce the wear and tear.
Not so worried about the physical aspects of Judge going forward. I’d worry more about whether the loss of athleticism as he ages affects his bat speed.
