What do you make of Daboll’s recent press conferences?
My opinion is that they are awful. He has no idea of how to handle the media. It looks like he is seething inside as he is forced to answer what he considers one stupid question after the next.
Whether or not the questions are indeed stupid, I think that he has A LOT to learn about addressing the media. He comes off as looking petulant.
Please note that I am not making any statement regarding his coaching abilities. This is purely related to another component of an NFL head coach’s job that I think he has been handling very poorly the last few weeks.
Ok. I don’t agree, but you’re certainly entitled to your opinion. Things were different when the team was 6-1. He is very testy with his responses now. It doesn’t do anyone any good for him to act like that, even if that’s the way he is feeling.
On a side note, you must have absolutely despised Bill Parcells who would call the media Commies to their faces.
I think he's doing just fine and that his patience will really be tested after a few of these games coming up - as it is becoming fairly evident that the Giants are over-matched.
At least he doesn't give a 20 minute soliloquy on how the team insn't a clown show like other teams and try to rationalize everything.
He's been pretty consisent about how humbling the game is and not to get too high or too low after the games.
He's been fine by me

If you watch his old press conference after they won a game, you would have thought we lost.
It's amazing what losing will do!
this is the life cycle in NYC. they're coming at his neck with leading questions, stirring up shit, asking if jobs are safe. it is what it is. it's bound to happen
It is not always said out load but always part of the equation. nyc is not for everyone. some players and coaches can work here... some can't
I read the transcripts and don't watch the live Pressers. Who are the people he hates? I would guess Pat Leonard for one and I am not sure about the other one (maybe Jordan or Schwartz?)

Since the reporters read the site, I'd rather not answer that. But if you watch the pressers, you can tell who is more snarky with. I will say he seems to cut the women more slack.
Win and you can be a meanie.
Lose (or tie I suppose) and we have to read about your demeanor.
Your obsession with Jones is bordering on psychotic. FFS man, give it a rest
Belichick acts like he wants to crawl under a rock whenever he does press conferences. And he always has.

It’s a joke based on idiotic comments made today. Have a snickers and lighten up

Not sure how anyone can say that.
Daboll was OK in his presser after last week's tie, but there was clearly a difference in his Thanksgiving day post-game presser linked below.
Turkey Day Presser - ( New Window )
I was listening to a Raanan podcast where he had three NY GIants beat guys on and they all said that Judge was their favorite guy to cover.
They all had nice things to say about him especially when he wasn't in front of the mics.
My point is if you watch the pressers after the wins, he's not all smiles. He's usually pretty stoic, even right after the games where he was jumping around like a little kid coming off of the field.

Hahahanaha Tuna’s press conferences were must-see TV
Find a hobby OP.
I don't think Parcells liked it but he was good at it.
R** H** was very bad at it. McAdoo, Shurmur, not very good. Judge, good until it was clear he was full of it. Daboll is probably too hot-tempered to be good at it all the time, he's going to have bad moments, but he's generally ok at it.
There are two things about handling press that a lot of these guys don't understand. They're related. One is: If you don't want to talk about something, just politely say "No comment" or "I'm not going to talk about that right now." They will press you, but just keep saying that and politely ask for a different question. That will flag to the beats that they should look into it, or at least seek an answer later, but that's better than talking about it when you're not ready or willing to.
Related: If you give an answer that is obviously meant to shut off inquiry, all you are doing is telling the press to look into this. Once saw a presser where a guy (not in football) was asked why he left his old job. He said "I left for personal reasons," with an unspoken "period" at the end. Asked again, he just repeated that. I was watching thinking "Everybody in the room is going to start making calls." And they did. They got a story out of it. Maybe that's what he wanted, but I doubt it. He just didn't know how to handle the press. He'd have been better off giving them a useful but not-very-interesting quote and steering them to a different angle.
Eli was the master of the responsive but boring quote. He didn't dodge questions, but he rarely said anything revealing or surprising. He said very little in a lot of words. Good skill for someone who has to talk to the press a lot in pressurized situations.
Yes. Also, the places where coaches spend their attention are a million times more complex than what the reporters are asking for. Daboll and staff are looking for every little edge - like in x formation, the defenses safety creeps toward a certain space, how can we exploit that. And the media is like, hey I saw you yelling about something, do you think yelling is good or bad?

Just watched this past one, it's definitely Leonard and Jordan.

yeah these guys do not even watch the games. They just want to ask questions that create controversy.
Daboll or any other coach for that matter is not going to throw Kafka under the bus until they themselves are thinking he has to be fired. So, he avoids the little trap they set by not answering the question. Its all part of the game.

I remember when Brandon Brown was first interviewed before the press, the first question Jordan asked him was some crap about going from Philly to New York because the Eagles GM had been upset about it. Jordan is an Eagles shill. The guy is always commenting on how great the Eagles are year after year (I know this year it is deserved but many years it has not).
