To everyone who wants grass at MetLife

Sean : 12/8/2022 3:32 pm
Matt in SGS is sharing highlights from that great Giants win against Philly in 2002 on his twitter feed.

I do not remember how horrific the grass was for this game. It was so bad that Buck, Aikman & Collinsworth were calling out how embarrassing it was for NFL standards. I don’t know how it improved going forward - I know the Giants used grass after 2002. But man, that field was rough.

Lastly, the Giants dominated that game. I forgot all the errors made in that game to even make it close, mainly Tiki’s fumbles.

We should not use grass because of what was used 20 years ago. With that said, it isn't grass vs. turf. It is finding something that can help keep the players as safe as possible.

that may be so, but it was still safer.
For the World Cup in 2026 they will need to have a grass field

There must be someway to create a grass field that has removable trays to avoid a repeat of the early 2000s grass field at Giants stadium.

football team. There's no reason someone can't come up with a solution that's better than what we currently have.
Why can't they have a grass field and another surface for concerts?
RCPhoenix : 12/8/2022 4:01 pm : link
I get that it is expensive to do that, but it's beyond absurd that MetLife cannot even entertain this concept.

Yeah that's exactly it, you have to actually spend the money to properly create and care for a grass field.

The thought that it's impossible is laughable, honestly. The Giants are just too cheap to do it correctly.
The Jets play on the same field, do they have the same amount and

AT&T stadium has 3 different fields that are used for specific events. A pro football field, a college field, and a grass field for soccer. Plus the stadium host many different events during the year.

I don't understand how Metlife, which cost more, has less versatility.
Can't they just limit use of the stadium to Football

vs what we have 22 years later. Technology has made massive advances, and there are new, synthetic grass/plastic weaves (SIS Grass) that are massive improvements over the older fields.

For example, the Packers installed SIS Grass in 2018 in Lambeau field (New turf ready to welcome Packers into 2018 season).

They did, and it didn't work well. That said, as others have pointed out, the fact that a grass field system didn't work 20 years ago is not compelling evidence that one couldn't work today.

While players were informed of Barnes’ induction in training camp this summer, Barnes found out in February at his surprise 70th birthday party. The whole Mara family was there, and there was even a gifted jersey bearing the No. 12 — symbolizing his status as “the 12th Mara child.”

“He’s part of the family,” John said.

Not a chance in hell.

Apples and oranges comparison. Soccer players weight about 170 pounds and contact between players are limited. Football players weight much more than soccer players and contact between players are more frequent and violent.

They got the advanced miracle spray where players constantly just immediately jump back up and play fully ambulatory at 100% after an apparently debilitating and agonizing injury.

We fucking dominated that '02 game vs. the Eagles & would have won going away if not for Tiki's fumbles.

Tiki is the best Giants RB of my lifetime, but it still irks me how much he pissed on TC when TC helped Tiki stop being a fumbling machine.

The 2002 team is one of my personal favs of all time. I was so stoked going into 2003 until the injuries derailed that season and Fassel seemed to lose the locker by the end.

I guess. At the time I didn't think about it much because I figured with the same team coming back in 2003 we could kick ass again. But Fassel himself did admit that seven years was long enough and his time was up. He should be considered the teams third best head coach right behind Coughlin and Parcells.
The 2003 team was 4-4

What I remember from the '03 season...

Beating Rams Week 1.
Us pissing away a win vs. Dallas & Parcells Week 2.
The Westbrook PR. Ugh.
Kurt Kittner looking like Unitas.
Joe Horn.

A season to forget, though it did lead to TC & Eli so a blessing long term.

Soccer has one of the highest incidence of ACL tears. Not just the cuts, they have to plant with one leg every time the kick the ball. Plus there is a lot of jumping with awkward landing. Women's soccer is often considered the worst sport for ACL tears.
