Sunday was the first Giants Playoff game since I lost my Dad

Paulie Walnuts : 1/17/2023 5:05 pm
During this whole season, I missed being able to call him up and discuss the games

And after every Playoff win, I could count on the first call I got was from Dad and he would always start by "So what did you think of that Mr.M....... ?" We lost Dad in April 2020.

So Sunday, I opened a Molson after the game in his honor, and the first phone call I got was from my son, so I said to him, "So what did you think of that Mr.M....... ?"
And so it continues...

Dad would have loved these coaches. We play smart football under them. Dad hated "dummy football" as he sued to say, "Same old Dummy Giants"

I sure he had good seats for this one..

here for me and my brothers. Very eerie their first PO game in years was one year after his passing.

Lets hope they can both give us more magic Saturday Night.

been three years and change and it's not gotten much easier. I forget for awhile and then reality reminds with me with a punch to the heart.

he would have loved this team we spent a lot of time watching and talking about the Mets and Giants. He's always in my mind and heart after all these games. Now my boys are watching them with me.
Bless you all

I learned football at my father's knee, watching the Giants.

He went into the hospital in September 2016. On the 25th, I spent the afternoon listening to the Giants lose to Washington. (That sucked.) He died a few days later.

Yeah, I miss talking Giants with him, too. I feel for all you guys.

but me too. My dad died in 2018; a couple months before my youngest daughter's wedding. Which is where it really hit me hard.

Jon Yes, the pain and void are always there. My Dad had his father drop dead in his arms. He never got over it. They used to go to Giants games together. Once my Dad got older and successful, he wished he could have done some nice things for his Dad. Now I somewhat understand. I would do anything to play one more round with my Dad
My Story
Jeffrey : 1/17/2023 6:00 pm : link
My dad a longtime coach and fanatic Giants fan died one day after the Giants won the 2007 Super Bowl. He was mostly asleep during that game and receiving morphine for his pain, but I sat next to his bed and watched the entire game on the small monitor in his bedroom, talking to him about plays as my excitement helped overcome the grief from what was going to happen at any moment. I was relieved when he did not pass that day and will always believe that he was aware of the game and knew his beloved Giants won in an historic upset.

Big Giants fan. Said we are going to the SB like in 86, when we lost my Dad
Great memories, great sadness
Paulie, may your memories of your father always be for a blessing

Family history. I never missed a game with my father from a kid til he passed in Dec of 2010. I like to think he helped us out in 2011! My passion for the Giants will forever be tied to him. I think of him every game day. I miss our daily discussions of who said what on BBI and what could’ve been for each season. Let’s hope the Giants go on another magical run in honor of all those no longer here.
Cheers!
Same here. Brother, too.

Lost my dad in April, 2020; lost one of my brothers in October, 2018. They stopped by to let me know they were watching a few weeks ago when Collins had his pick-6 - his previous one being the game in London vs. the Rams years ago that I took both of them to go see.
Same...

Everyone's experience is certainly different, but I lost my father suddenly in 1986.

Early on my experience was as you describe, Jon.

As the years went by, those punches to my heart became a warming of my heart when I think of him.

I hope your path is similar.

Peace.
Me too

Lost my dad this summer. He was also a huge Rutgers fan.
I'm very sorry for your loss, Paulie ...

But I'm sure St. Peter turns on the TV on game-day for him. If the Giants get to the championship game in Santa Clara this year, hope to see you there.

Lost Dad November 2021. Used to come over to my house every Sunday and watch the game with me.

Now when i watch with my wife and Daughter and good things are happening my daughter (24 yo) always at some point looks up and says "thanks Pee-Paw!"

Miss the old man....
I'm with you guys, this month was 12 years since I lost my Dad

I'll always have fond memories of watching Giants games with him. I miss him terribly, especially when there's good football to discuss, but grateful to have so many great memories with him.

And on Sunday I was watching from my couch while holding my 3 month old baby boy, decked out in his Giants onesie. Little guy doesn't yet understand why his Dad was shouting at the TV a couple times:) There really is something to this whole circle of life thing.

All the best to you guys who lost loved ones recently.

Paulie and all the others I pat my heart and hope you're comforted by all the great memories of you family members no longer with us. I lost my Mom Dec 1. Surely I don't share Giants memories with her as she hated football (she like baseball so we had great memories of going to and watching Yanks games).
However she was fine at 90 till September when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The last 3 months were really hard watching her go downhill so fast. Many days and nights at the hospital, rehab etc. Stressfully planning for getting her the care she needed. This wonderful Giants season and the way the Devils have played really have been my 3 hour respite. Unfortunately my Dad passed when I was 5, so unlike many of you I don't have the father-son memories of him teaching me sports. It has been more my older brother. My kids are teens now and they are total sports nuts like me. It warms my heart that they are getting to see a Giants playoff run for the first time. The excitement and anticipation all week for a big game. I love thinking that whenever I'm gone they hopefully will come to a forum like this and hopefully speak of the fond memories they have of watching sports with me and rooting for our teams like maniacs. It does make me feel good that eventhough Mom hated football, she loved nothing better than to see us happy. So I know she was looking down on us last Sunday night around 8pm with a gigantic smile on her face.
Hey Paulie.

Just want to let you know I can kinda understand where you are at. My Dad has brain cancer, the same kind known for taking John McCain and Joe Bidens son. It's one of the more deadly ones. This will likely be his last playoff run. I'm heading down to watch the Philly game with him this weekend. The Yankees let him down this year and while he's a big second generation Giants fan, he's a bigger Yankees fan. So I am hoping his next love, the NY Giants can send him off well. He hates Boston first, and Philly second so God willing this Saturday.

Dude is such a big Yankees fan that he's asked me to drop some of his ashes in Yankees stadium to give em good luck and some in Boston, to curse them for 100 years. Asked him tons of times if he's serious and he swears its what he wants, so sometime next year I'm doing some trips.

Back to the Giants, dude loves talking about Bavaro, LT and Banks. Just loved those 80s Giants. I remember talking to him after the Pats game in 07 and he guaranteed we'd meet em in the SB and win it all. So two generations of Giants fans are gonna sit down and watch the game this Saturday with the first generations WW2 flag overlooking us.

Anyways, sorry to hear and I get it. Go Giants.
