During this whole season, I missed being able to call him up and discuss the games
And after every Playoff win, I could count on the first call I got was from Dad and he would always start by "So what did you think of that Mr.M....... ?" We lost Dad in April 2020.
So Sunday, I opened a Molson after the game in his honor, and the first phone call I got was from my son, so I said to him, "So what did you think of that Mr.M....... ?"
And so it continues...
Dad would have loved these coaches. We play smart football under them. Dad hated "dummy football" as he sued to say, "Same old Dummy Giants"
I sure he had good seats for this one..
Lets hope they can both give us more magic Saturday Night.
Yeah, I miss talking Giants with him, too. I feel for all you guys.
Great memories, great sadness
Paulie, may your memories of your father always be for a blessing
Cheers!
Everyone's experience is certainly different, but I lost my father suddenly in 1986.
Early on my experience was as you describe, Jon.
As the years went by, those punches to my heart became a warming of my heart when I think of him.
I hope your path is similar.
Peace.
But I'm sure St. Peter turns on the TV on game-day for him. If the Giants get to the championship game in Santa Clara this year, hope to see you there.
Now when i watch with my wife and Daughter and good things are happening my daughter (24 yo) always at some point looks up and says "thanks Pee-Paw!"
Miss the old man....
And on Sunday I was watching from my couch while holding my 3 month old baby boy, decked out in his Giants onesie. Little guy doesn't yet understand why his Dad was shouting at the TV a couple times:) There really is something to this whole circle of life thing.
All the best to you guys who lost loved ones recently.
However she was fine at 90 till September when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The last 3 months were really hard watching her go downhill so fast. Many days and nights at the hospital, rehab etc. Stressfully planning for getting her the care she needed. This wonderful Giants season and the way the Devils have played really have been my 3 hour respite. Unfortunately my Dad passed when I was 5, so unlike many of you I don't have the father-son memories of him teaching me sports. It has been more my older brother. My kids are teens now and they are total sports nuts like me. It warms my heart that they are getting to see a Giants playoff run for the first time. The excitement and anticipation all week for a big game. I love thinking that whenever I'm gone they hopefully will come to a forum like this and hopefully speak of the fond memories they have of watching sports with me and rooting for our teams like maniacs. It does make me feel good that eventhough Mom hated football, she loved nothing better than to see us happy. So I know she was looking down on us last Sunday night around 8pm with a gigantic smile on her face.
Dude is such a big Yankees fan that he's asked me to drop some of his ashes in Yankees stadium to give em good luck and some in Boston, to curse them for 100 years. Asked him tons of times if he's serious and he swears its what he wants, so sometime next year I'm doing some trips.
Back to the Giants, dude loves talking about Bavaro, LT and Banks. Just loved those 80s Giants. I remember talking to him after the Pats game in 07 and he guaranteed we'd meet em in the SB and win it all. So two generations of Giants fans are gonna sit down and watch the game this Saturday with the first generations WW2 flag overlooking us.
Anyways, sorry to hear and I get it. Go Giants.
