Some of the coaching interviews scheduled for this week and weekend:
— #Giants OC Mike Kafka is set for interviews Sunday with #Colts, #Panthers and #Texans.
— #Giants DC Wink Martindale has #Colts on Sunday.
— #49ers DC DeMeco Ryans has the #Broncos today, #Texans on Friday.
Other than not allowing interviews until after the SB, I can't think of a fair solution to the problem.
All of these teams have had at least a couple of years of winning (some longer?).
Is it because the NYC marketplace is so huge, international with so much media HQ’ed here?
I think you're on to something here. If Kafka could re-awaken a down & out Giants offense, just think what he could do for OUR offense!
Tierney, the QB coach would probably become the OC, and Drew Wilkins, who is currently the OLB coach, who has been with Wink since 2010, would probably become DC. Wink even recommended him to Schoen (if things didn't work out for him).
As long as Schoen and Daboll are running this ship, things will be taken care of correctly.

Don't forget Davis Webb. What can't he do?
The Giants were as bad as any team in the league. This turnaround is nothing short of remarkable. Daniel Jones was going nowhere. Of course other bad teams with questionable QB situations are looking at what Daboll and Kafka did here and thinking, "hmm, maybe Kafka can copy that formula with my crappy team".
Even just to get him in the building to hear his thoughts on what they did/why they were successful is worth the interview.
Again, he has repeatedly said throughout this year he wants to be a HC.

Wink will probably ask to take Drew Wilkins with him to be his D coordinator. Giants would have to decline but Buffalo let Daboll take Shea Tierney with him. It's common place.
Best Bet is probably Kafka getting the Colts job and we keep Wink.
But Joe Schoen built this house, and hopefully he'll be as successful if he has to replace a brick or two. And not to take anything away from any of these guys, but remember they've all been working for Daboll.
Defense worries me most. I don't want to get a bend but don't break D coordinator again. Wink is probably our best D coordinator since little Bill and that's a lot to say since we had Spags and Fox.
The offense is strong since that is Daboll's expertise. Worst case he could always take over play call duties.
Hiring an older defensive minded coach is not even the trend any longer....
The Giants' roster is a train wreck. And it's probably still true. These owners look at the Giants, see their roster is better, and decide those are clearly the coaches they want.

when Schoen and Daboll put this staff together, they planned for the long term as well as the short term (the way they plan Everything!)

If they asked for Kafka first, I would have to assume he is the favorite going in. But that can change anytime

this week that he was honored to receive the HC interview requests, but he came to the Giants as his destination not a stepping stone?
Again, he has repeatedly said throughout this year he wants to be a HC.
Ahh I took at look at the transcript and see that the clip I watched didn't show the part where he said "I'm going to give you coach speak here" before he made the comments re destination vs stepping stone...
So in other words, he said "well here's my BS politically correct answer".. lol

Both the Eagles OC and DC have upcoming head coach interviews
All of these teams have had at least a couple of years of winning (some longer?).
Is it because the NYC marketplace is so huge, international with so much media HQ’ed here?
I know Dan Quinn is interviewing for the Broncos job. Heard it on Denver radio yesterday.
It certainly would suck to lose either one of them, but they earned the opportunity.
Wink would be a fun head coach.

No, both the Eagles OC and DC had or have upcoming head coach interviews
The Giants actually have a pretty low rate of assistant coaches leave for HC guys. The only two this century have been Fox and Spags, I believe.
Sean Payton was let go by the Giants, and took a step down in Dallas.
"Wellington was, man, one of the best," Payton recalled. "The last thing I got when I left there, Wellington gave me a letter with a penny in it to give to Parcells. They had a long history -- Wellington would always put a penny in his locker on game day. Heads up."

It's simple to me. Coaching is about getting the most out of our players. How many Chiefs castoffs need to suck before people look for more than just winning team's coaches? We won 4 games last year. DJ was a bum. We have PS level players at WR. Yet, look at where we are. Kafka has done an excellent job with the talent he has had. That is why he is getting looks.
Other than not allowing interviews until after the SB, I can't think of a fair solution to the problem.
The only fair way of doing it, is to allow “NO” coaching interviews until after the Super Bowl.

Assistant coaches doing interviews during playoffs. Either they will lack adequate attention to interview or lack adequate attention to game. These aren't standard jobs, prep work for interviews are significant.

That wouldn't work. Teams would cheat and come to deals behind the scenes.

Eric, that stuff goes on anyways.
That could be a big reason why Howie Roseman was so pissed when Joe Schoen snagged him.
On the same theory, Daboll is always going to rely on a good DC. The good thing is, unless they follow Wink, we have a few guys on staff that would be good candidates. (Wilkins, Henderson, Patterson).

Yup, some guys are great position coaches but not really good coordinators. Some good coordinators dont make good coaches. We know that Daboll has now had success at both coordinator and HC. If we lose Kafka its less a risk than losing Wink.
Hmmm 🤔
Should DJ get ready for his 5th OC in 6 years?
So they go, do the interview, and then it's business as usual.

You can't say no to a promotion, only lateral move.

Given how we’ve been historically generous to the league, I’d just say NO!

The Giants would not receive any compensatory picks this year if Brown were to get a GM job. The minority candidate must be with his current organization for a minimum of two years.

Also good luck getting a high quality OC or DC if you prevent them from advancing to head coach jobs. The best would only go places where they are allowed to advance their careers
