Coinciding with GBN's newest 3-Round Mock Draft (link at bottom), which has the Giants tentatively slotted in at #25, our friend Colin has written an accompanying article in light of the Giants moving down at least a few Draft spots in light of their Wild Card win over the Vikings. His remarks can be found on GBN's front page: https://gbnreport.com/
Here is a summary of his thinking:
(1) With the Giants now tentatively slotted in at #25 (actually the 24th pick), they may have lost out on one of the Top 3 CBs and Top 3 WRs in the 2023 Draft;
(2) So, instead of CB or WR in Round One, they go LBer with their selection with the idea that they could still find a very good WR in Round 2 (which is the position Mocked to the Giants at #57.)
(3) HOWEVER, what Colin is suggesting is that maybe after their first-round selection at LBer, Joe Schoen jumps on the phone toot sweet, looking to trade up into the early part of Round Two (or even the end of Round One) to find the next best wide receiver!
It's all speculation of course, but makes for a fun, interesting read.
2023 3-round projection - (
New Window )
Flowers in particular- He beat press and double teams all year, and his great speed/quickness and route running ability allows him to win on the outside.
Really, my only knocks on him are size (listed 5’10 175) and age (he’ll be a 23 year old rookie). But at 25? I’d love the pick. Reminds me quite a bit of Waddle and even see some Toney (minus the headaches) in how he moves and eludes defenders with the ball in his hands
Ducks
I see Richardson being a target of Detroit or Seatle if they extend Smith short term. Multiple 1sts and solid QB in place to give him a rookie year without forcing him to play right away.
If Hyatt runs sub 4.4, which I expect, we should run to the podium to select him.
Unfolded like this with O'Cyrus Torrence OG Florida going one pick before us. He would be such a great addition who could make our inside run game lethal.
Ducks
We aren’t getting a #1 WR as a FA. Far too expensive. Maybe a #2/3 type but it will still be a bit pricey. I’ve been touting JuJu but don’t what he will cost.

Risk reward is correct-the right guy makes us a 12 or 13 win team right away...

Captain Jack at 100? I would love to see that!
Just a couple of comments. Several people mentioned Stroud and what we are hearing is that teams like his pure arm strength but he's not athletic, is somewhat robotic and isn't necessarily all that precise with his accuracy. Time will tell.
In terms of the Giants, it is a little frustrating because there are so many possible perms and combs for their picks. In this mock we kind of asked what would the Giants second day options look like if they surprised and took a defensive player in the opening round which woul not be totally out of the question, although it would almost assuredly have to be a guy with a special set of skills as opposed to someone just to add to the rotation.
However, we still think that the Giants absolute #1 priority going into the off season will be to find a fast, explosive playmaker at WR and it really just is hard to see them passing on a player like Hyatt (or maybe Rice who as we noted in our write up is very intriguing; indeed right now he is the #1 guy we are looking forward to seeing at the Senior Bowl.)
And after a night of (sadly) sober reflecting we are thinking that if that would indeed be the Giants thinking then maybe they get the best WR they can in round one (and I certainly wouldn't rule out a trade up if a Addison or Njigba-Smith came into range) and then consider trading up for a defender like USC DE/DT Tuipulotu in the second. Again just musing cause we got time.
In the meantime, good luck to us on Saturday!!
I think Stroud erased a lot of doubt in the semis against Georgia that he has the mobility and athleticism to work at the next level. And he has a great, quick release. I don't see him slipping past #7.
And Richardson going #7 is really aggressive. There is a Malik Willis odor to him, although he is bigger and a better stroke. He could be a first, second, or a third rounder.
Andre Carter fell off a cliff in 2022. I don't see a top ten pick...
Gibbs down to the fourth best RB prospect?? Interesting.
Sy wrote the other day that Zay Flowers could fit what NYG looks for in a WR - ability to play multiple WR spots.
I'd be fine with either Vol WR at #25 - Hyatt or Wilson.

Great draft if you can get 1st rounders in the 2nd and 2nd rounders in the 3rd.
He can rush the passer and cover and tackle, he's do it all LB.
Per Dane Brugler draft analyst, who has close ties to NFL, NFL teams love Drew Sanders, that's why he is keep mocking him in the 1st rd.
When we pick later of 1st rd, most likely good CB and WR may be gone and I don't want Schoen to reach bc of positions. We need good player and Drew Sanders is a good player just happens to play LB.
Leo may be a salary cap casualty so a DL could make sense in Rd 2

and man if Siaka Ika fell to the 2nd and they could grab another 350+ pounder for the middle of the defense behind Lawrence, that would be an awesome first 2 rounds. his biggest knock is endurance but with dex and williams that's not a concern.

Ika's a NT like Lawrence. We'd need a 3-tech if we cut Williams instead unless Lawrence goes back to playing DE.

Leo will not be a salary cap casualty. They have room to keep him without an extension and an extension is almost a certainty.
