Eagles message board: who would we want in NFC champ game?

ryanmkeane : 1/20/2023 10:06 am
Just thought I'd share a few nuggets from their message board
and some of the thread titles and comments:

-fuck Dallas, we can beat them
-would rather play Niners, but who cares
"At this point, who scares you?" thread and no mention of the Giants, only dallas and SF
-worrying about the 2023 roster because a lot of their players will be tough to bring back after a super bowl run
-And then finally - a direct quote: The line is designed to get suckers to go for the Giants covering the spread, the idea the bookies are somehow surprised and worried that 90% of the money is going on New York is absolute hooey, they know a full strength properly schemed Eagles have the Giants number by at least a score and have set the line accordingly. There's a reason bookies always make money.

These fans are VERY confident...

but that city and franchise and fanbase needs to be brought down a notch. The universe needs balance. Said it in 2007 before the Pats game.

It's fucking time. Restore balance to the NFL universe.

The Eagles have had the NYG's number for YEARS. Their team is the number 1 seed in the NFC and is arguably the most talented team in the league. They certainly have the best OL and DL combination in the NFL. The Giants haven't won down there since 2013.

Now, they should also understand the Giants team that will take the field against the Birds tomorrow is NOT the same Giants team they saw two weeks ago and 6 weeks ago in the Meadowlands. The Giants are healthier and playing with much more confidence. The Giants won't be intimidated going to play in Philly, that's for certain. I don't care how much the try and hide it, but Hurts has to be mindful of his right throwing shoulder and the Birds have to scheme around not having a healthy Lane Johnson at RT and their nickel corner, Avonte Maddox. Brandon Graham will also be limited due to illness.

ALL OF THEM. They are used to beating NYG.

None of that matters anymore. Streaks end. Time to check that fucking franchise. Just. One. Time. All the bad losses, from the 80s, to the 90s (not really) through the 00s and teens...1978...all of them....they don't matter anymore. No one will care if NYG are flying to SF or Dallas next week. Philly won't care either.

Time to slay the dragon. Time to exorcise the demons. One perfect game away. ONE TIME.

it is just a bit strange to be doing this in the playoffs, let alone the fact that they barely squeaked by our 3rd string 2 weeks ago.

reminds me of the vikings intro when they did this whole "4 games to go!" thing....it was weird and a little uncomfortable, almost like, hey, who cares about this game.

The two losses that hurt the most were in 88 and 89. Erik Howard was crying on the sidelines after one of them. Eff Buddy Ryan. The 88 loss STILL is stunning. Parcells chased the officials after the game ended in OT. I still don't get how LT blocked that kick in OT and Clyde Simmons picked it up and ran it in for a TD. Belichick was like "WTF?" too afterwards. The 89 wind game with Randle Cunningham punting a 91-yarder INTO the wind after we had them backed up was a game-changer.

jeez, Optimus, I think I've gotta be older than you, but I'm drawing blanks on the '88 and I kinda remember the '89, cuz Randall routinely killed us, pulled rabbits out of the hat with his scrambling: he should have been an easy target to tackle, but he was wiry strong and elusive for such a big guy...yeah, and that shocked you punt

I think I'm older than both of you and I don't remember either games but the game that I do remember and I think IT cursed the Giants against the Eagles was "The Fumble" game on Nov 1978. The Giants was winning that game and was two snaps away from the win but Pisarcik and Csonka fumbles the handoff and the rest was miserable history. The Giants had a winning record against them of 48-36-2 before that game. Ever since that loss, the Giants record against the Eagles is 39-54. All the other agonizing loss to the Eagles stems from that cursed fumble. We Giants Fans need to exorcise "THE FUMBLE CURSE" by burning Philadelphia Eagle's Herman Edwards number 46 Jersey at the Metlife Parking Lot.

The fumble

Clyde Simmons shock block--returning a blocked FG in OT (by LT) in for a winning TD

Randal not going down after Banks all but sacked him--throws a TD.

Randall's 92 yard punt

Simms getting killed too many times to count thx to that Philly pass rush in the late 90s.

Bavaro getting tossed in 90 when he bumped the ref

***the 90s were safe---tumbleweeds blow by until the early Fassel's last stand of...)

Westbrook's PR in 2003

TO shredding the NYG defense in Coughlin's first game as HC

Losing to stupid Jeff Garcia in a playoff game

McNabb's "phone call game" playoff loss

09's torching x2 which kept us out of the playoffs

MAtt Dodge/Jackson memorial

Cruz in 2014

17-21 who cares NYg lost to everyone but the 61 yarder was yet another notch on the belt of horse shit.

I think that about covers it.

I'm 45 gents. Those losses at home in 88 and 89 were painful. Here's a link to the game in 89 (a team that many think was Parcells's best in the 80s).

NFL Game 1989 Eagles 24 Giants 17 AWAY - ( New Window )
This Eagles team reminds me of the 08 Giants

That Giant team was about as dominant we’ve ever had and my confidence in them week after week was as high as I’ve ever had, until Plax shot their season to hell.

I don’t blame Eagles fans for feeling so confident but I see some real similarities and I think they’ve peaked already. Throw in the injuries they’re dealing with and I have a real good feeling about this Giant team doing to them what they did to us in 08.

Throw in the fact the '08 Eagles went 9-6-1 & beat the Vikes @ the Metrodome in the WC round. We went 9-7-1 & beat the Vikes in MN in the WC round.

Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy. Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln.

And going to be vague about it, but I know for a fact the Eagles org is expecting to make it to the Super Bowl and is starting their planning for the trip.

Have them contact the Patriots, they know where to send the SB T-Shirts after we beat them

The Eagles' fans should be confident...

they are a better team, have played better this year, have more offensive weapons, and have beaten us the majority of the time over the past decade.

They are also playing at home.
