I had never considered that he might not want to come back to NYG. On some level it makes sense. His tenure here has been anything but steady. Does he feel slighted in any way by not having his option picked up? I also wonder if there is anything to the fact that Carolina appears to have an opening at the position would be a draw for him.
When this season opened I never thought Schoen and Daboll would want him and really up until December I thought that. That changed during the late December stretch and wildcard game but never gave it any thought that maybe Jones would want to move on.
The big question is this. If Jones and his agent play hardball (and it appears they will certainly have some other options) do Schoen and Daboll like him enough to be drawn into potentially intense competition for his services?

He could be a hometown hero with the Panthers if they want him. NFC South has a much easier road to the playoffs. A playoff berth, let alone a playoff win with the Panthers and they'd be building a shrine for him.

Jones is also unlikely to ever be the type of marketable player that Eli was. Part of that is due to the last name, Eli was getting sponsorship deals pretty quickly. I don't think Jones even has one of those local car dealership ads where it sounds like the player recorded it over his cellphone.
We don't know whats going on in his head, but its completely a realistic scenario that he's thinking "Hey, I think I'm pretty damn good, but I'll never get the appreciation here unless I'm perfect all of the time. I could go home and a big fish in a small pond and have people chant my name when they see me walking around Charlotte."

The kid makes the throws the strong majority of times when there is a play to be made. His ball placement accuracy is one of the best in the NFL. He can read and process what a defense is doing. Get him receivers and his performance will go up tremendously like so many a QB of the last 10 years when they got a top WR added to their offense.
He and the Giants are a good fit. There is no doubt he will be fairly compensated. I’betting he’s in a Giant uniform for a few years

Untrue, Mrs. Jones. Dexter Lawrence was probably the best player on this team, but it doesn't matter. Picking up a 5th year option out of "respect" is a dumb idea to begin with. I don't know if great games against teams that had given up (Indy) or with terrible defenses (Minny) changes their minds about whether he's the guy for the future, but I doubt it.
