I'm curious to hear from those who made the trip into enemy territory last night. How was it?
I've been to countless games in my life, across sports, in opposing stadiums. For the last 30 years, I've been doing this with my near 70 year old father. An Eagles game was the one we had never done, despite the proximity. But we finally took the plunge last night.
I'll be honest, we didn't wear Giants gear. Wasn't worth the hassle to me. Bravo to those that did. And in the end, I don't regret that. Drunkest game I've ever attended. Every fan was drunker than the next, giving Giants fans lots of crap, throwing around slurs like it was nothing. Trips to the bathroom for any Giants fan were dicey. At one point, I couldn't get out because a near-fight happened in the exit doorway.
I didn't see any punches thrown all night, though my trip through the parking lot after the game did see one fight almost break out. One of the Giants fans must have been 65-70 and he was ready to throw down.
So was a football game in Philly as bad as people say? I guess not. Maybe the game flow had a lot to do with it. Not much we Giants fans could say, given the score. But I can't see myself going to another anytime soon.
I went to a few Raiders games when I lived in L.A. (including a couple of Giants games back in the late 80s). That fan base was brutal.

In the old days. Going to a Raiders game now is like being at Disney World.

I never had problems in Oakland. I was there New Year's Eve in 2005 when Tiki broke off a 95 yard TD. I wore Giants gear and cheered openly and had no trouble. My brother is a Broncos fan, we went to a Broncos game in Oakland he was too scared to wear Broncos gear or cheer for them. I cheered for them and it was fine.
The NFC Championship game in San Francisco in 2012 is the only time I felt a bit unsafe at an NFL game. A guy a couple seats away accused me of being an undercover cop as soon as he arrived. He got very drunk during the game and realized I would have done something to him if I was a cop so got braver throughout the game. I found an open aisle seat a couple rows away for the game-winning kick and got out of there right away. It would have been nice to savor the victory a bit. Though the day before I told my wife I wanted a divorce, so my mind wasn't really on the game anyway.
Linc: roughest of NY division opponents to visit, you wear NY gear - you'll have a few moments (mostly up in the concourse by bathroom & concessions), mob mentality with wannabe tough guys can be bad, if I went again, I would not wear anything with NY - not worth the aggravation.
FedEx: probably the booziest of the 3, but mostly tolerable, took my kid there when he was <10, felt like a bad parent by the end
AT&T: great stadium and fans are good too, gone here at least 4 times and once to Texas Stadium all were great trips
Next year I'll drive to Vegas to see them. Also been to Arizona (no problem) & Levi Stadium (no problem).
