RB market is going to be interesting. I personally don't see any team being in a rush to offer a guy more than 12 mil with so many other options available.
Draft has 2 first round caliber RB's as well (Robinson, Gibbs)
I love Saquon. One of my favorite Giants in the 20 years I've been a fan. But it would be absolutely insane to sign him to a huge deal before FA starts.
1. There are very few teams in a position to give him a huge deal
2. Tons of supply, not much demand
3. Injury prone position. RBBC is a safer bet.
4. RB Production almost always declines on their second contract.
I think he ultimately ends up back because he wants to be a Giant and he has more value to the Giants than he does any other team in the league. But I do think the price at which they get him will be reasonable (3 yrs, 36mil with an out after year 2)
I also think it's imperative that they add to the RB room and get a guy (Round 4ish) who can shoulder some of the load without as significant a drop off.
Because a few of those top guys may be only getting 3 yr 25-30 million deals
That’s a lot of backs. Would take josh Jacobs or sanders or it was less cash
Love saquon on gmen. Can’t overpay with that list.
12 mil a year for 1,650 yards and 10 TDs is a misuse if cap space? Id rather pay him that then pay a backup QB like Taylor 7 million per. Draft a quality backup like half of these other teams do and pay them the league min rather then waste 7-10 mil on a backup
I agree with this, having a elite running back is a nice to have and we are not in that position, fortify the trenches properly and you can do more with less from the RB position and you also get better pass protection out of it as well.
RB seems like a great position to cluster draft with late round picks and hope you hit in one. Let them play out rookie contract, rinse, repeat.
If anything I would franchise Barkley and trade him to the highest bidder

2nd contracts for running backs never work out. Move one. Fortify the trenches. Draft a running back in round 3 or 4.

SB had a very good year. He has adjusted his game considerably and remained healthy . But 3yrs at 12M per is a serious misuse of cap space and I hope it does not happen . He is not a top 10 RB any longer. He has had injuries and is no longer the breakaway threat that he was. What other team would offer him 36M ?

+1. Production wise Barkley is a good value

we can’t afford to cluster draft rb’s way to many holes to focus on one position besides he’s coming back and would expect soon so every option is available for the jones deal
Sorry, I agree, the cluster draft part was more of my general feelings on the position, in our case I think we should draft one and sign a couple that we’re not drafted

Yes, but you can't pay him for what he did, but what he is going to do. Second contracts for RBs are always a bad idea unless its cheap and you can get out of it. The problem is that some team who needs a "face of the franchise" or some other dumb reason is going to back the truck up, so will he take the extra coin to go elsewhere?
Of the F4 teams, the Chiefs are using RBBC, the Eagles are mostly Miles Sanders (2nd rounder) with good support from Gainwell and Scott, and the Bengals are mostly Mixon (2nd rounder) with good support from Perine.
While the Niners are rolling with CMC via the trade with Carolina, they have had similar success with RBBC.
The Niners added CMC as a luxury because they had so much infrastructure in place. We don't have that luxury situation for SB.
The two best moves, IMV, for SB are: (1) sign SB to a one-year deal (or NEFT) or (2) let him hit the market. Anything with multiple years with a high AAV - NEFT or > - is poor resource management.
If you guys are only interested in top 10 picks every year let him go. How many games do we win without him. Not many.
True.
I wanted to emphasize the luxury factor involved with the acquisition of CMC. San Fran were clearly in the hunt for big prizes, so I can buy why they went against the grain to add a high priced RB with so many pieces already assembled.
The tag is out I think. I see them using the tag on Jones if they need to. The Barkley contract will be very challenging.

if they sign DJ to a contract, and draft a RB to groom behind him.

I agree, I think there is a high probability that the tag gets used on Jones.
Which means it won't be on Barkley, in which case he likely finds somebody else who will pay more and walks.
We are going to need multiple ambulance crews on call at the homes of some posters here when/if that happens.
Probably some home contractors to repair the damage as well.

This is an excellent point. He was "the offense" in the beginning of the year. Pay him $12/yr, keep Brightwell, and find a big back later in the draft.
