Four.
Two off seasons later, they arguably have the best squad in the NFL. I think about that every time I read that we are “years away” from having a team like the Eagles or the Niners. Sometimes “light” years. Now, technically, two off seasons are years (plural). But that was a quick turnaround. How likely—or unlikely—is it that our team might be closer to being competitive with the big boys than expected?
Good point.
With all the long-term deals we need to get done for core players, I don't see us being able to make a similar splash. I just hope Schoen, Brown and co. can ace this draft, and the rookies who missed playing time this year can step up.
Daniel Jones > Carson Wentz, I don't think the Giants need to move on from him, but he's about to get paid. The Giants have cap space but not as much as the Eagles have had.
On the other hand, the Giants seem to have had a good 2022 draft and have at least 9 (maybe 11) picks in the next draft. If last year's picks return healthy and they have another good draft this year, they can upgrade the roster pretty fast.
What's also nice is he has some players to work with already. The rebuild is over. Now it's time to go from good to great.
Keep in mind they won the Bowl in 2017, so the question is how much of that SB roster was remaining by 2020?
IMO, they had some kind of setback in 2020 that really set their success back a lot. It's like the Niners 2020 and 2018 seasons which were very injury riddled....basically no QB for majority of those two seasons, and for the latter they had Bosa, Kittle, Sherman, etc. out a bunch of games.
If Brandon Graham is still on the roster, then that's saying a lot. They probably have a bunch of other guys that were good from the SB team.
2013?
You're probably thinking 2017.
The only Niner from the 2017 roster remaining is Jimmie Ward, and occasional practice squad guy Dontae Johnson (both drafted in Harbaugh's last season, 2014).
Roseman is also brilliant in managing assets and stockpiling future picks. The top roster in the NFL and they have the 10th pick in the draft.
As for the Giants, if they nail this upcoming draft in combination with Neal developing and Wan’Dale Robinson contributing to the passing game, this team can make another big jump next year.
