The fact that the Giants have been woefully awful over the last decade, coupled with the fact the team exceeded expectations this loss did not sting like all of the others. The game itself was never in question as well so reality and reflection of the entire year set in pretty quick. Progress is expected each year now……will be interesting to see how Dabs handles his sophomore year.
Watching it...couldn't do anything right, it was hard to watch.
I was going to say that one too. They had a TON of injuries and were lucky to be in the playoffs to begin with. However, I think that game was more painful than this one because as you said, they could’ve won the damn game. Tiki, Plaxico, and Shockey were great. I just thought Eli left some points on the board, especially in the first half. Defense had too many injuries.
That hail mary play pissed me off more than the actual game. Losing to prime Aaron Rodgers is nothing to be embarrassed about but that play was annoying. Of course they get their payback for the Nicks one in the playoffs from 2011. Of course they did.

eh, the second half of that season was pretty painful (after the typical 6-2 start) with the horrific loss to the Titans and some other bad games.
The only good news was that they finally moved on from the epic duo of Tim Lewis and Hufnagel after the season.
I would agree.
I don't see how a total ass-whupping from your most hated rival can be the least painful.
Whereas in 2006, they almost beat the heavily favored Eagles.

I'd have to say 2006 vs the Eagles is up there, too. I didn't think they'd win that one and thought it was comical that the game was even that close.

Right. So by the time the playoffs came I was very cynical of that team. Surprised they could even barely lose to Jeff Garcia. If you were kicking your TV stand over that one, that's weird.
Because now they're making it like the Giants actually had a chance. It's not like they exactly roughed up a HOF defense. They think they did.
2006 was one of the worst years for me ever as a Giants fan. That collapse absolutely exhausted me. I couldn't wait for that season to be over. And full disclosure, it had me real down on Tom Coughlin.
And it's not even close-we stunk my entire childhood, and we were so happy just to be in the PLAYOFFS-plus the franchise hadnt won since 1956 and the city had kinda given up on the team at that point
But if we're ranking playoff losses, least painful to most painful, this is going to be near the top of the list.
1981 probably least painful, because that team, like this one, was just emerging from the wilderness and overachieved making it to the second round.
This one probably second for me, and (again) only because of the beat-down and the opponent.
I'm not going to list the most-painful. They all sting unless you are really, really satisfied with the overall season.
Yeah, me too. I tried to prepare myself. I really thought they were going to lose but that night hurt like hell. Even if they played better, it still would hurt like hell. I literally wanted to punch Sirianni through the TV.
This last Eagles game likely won't even merit a footnote in Giants history. And if Philly doesn't win the Super Bowl, it won't even be a footnote in theirs either.
I'll agree with that. I never thought they'd win that game at Lambeau even for a single second, and it's not just that the Giants weren't very good, I had no affinity for that group in general, Eli aside.
So I guess the disappointment there was the feeling that it would likely be Eli's last playoff game.

We won 11 games in 2005, 10 games plus a SB in 2007, and 12 games in 2008. Team was really good during that four-year stretch but just lost its way in the second half of '06.

I was redy to be done with Coughlin after that year as well. Thank God nobody listens to me!

The procession of miserable games in that second half was truly something else: The Hester missed FG return against Chicago, followed by not showing up at Jacksonville, followed by blowing a 21-0 lead against Vince Young, then losing to Dallas and Philly at home.
People talk about doubting Eli 2007, but he really had some yips going on in the second half of 2006 as well, although he had basically no receivers outside of Plax once Toomer went out for the season.
Seen too much. Been through too much.
Yes. Me too. Despite it was over 20 years ago now I risk turning into the Incredible Hulk if I ruminate about that game for longer than a minute or two
+1. I did not think the Giants had much of a chance in that game. Odell was the offense that year. There were major red flags of decline in Eli's play and the offensive line was trash.
And you got Dave Brown
