Lamar rejected 133 mill over 5 years

MeanBunny : 1/24/2023 10:02 pm
QB market is getting stupid and NFL needs to shut hyperinflation down somehow.
Lamar is a running QB. They have a half-life of 4 years. Slower and slower and slower.
The show-me-the-money players need a severe reset of the market.
Hopefully Purdy, Geno Smith can show that winning teams can occur with affordable talent.

I don’t think Lamar is a greater thrower of the football
OBJ_AllDay : 1/24/2023 10:04 pm : link
But that’s an insulting offer for what he’s done in this league
What am I missing here?
UConn4523 : 1/24/2023 10:06 pm : link
why would he accept $26m a year and why is that article claiming it’s more than what Wilson got?
Ridiculously low offer it looks like
cosmicj : 1/24/2023 10:06 pm : link
But we’d have to know some details before concluding that.
The Watson contract was reckless
Sean : 1/24/2023 10:06 pm : link
and screwed up the market.
Nevermind, they said that was a previous offer
UConn4523 : 1/24/2023 10:07 pm : link
and this is the new one.

Please
$133M was the guaranteed money. Not the total amount of the deal.
Strahan91 : 1/24/2023 10:22 pm : link
This is old news. Was reported last summer.

Exactly. Paying 1 player 1/3 of your cap is stupid.
It is 26.6 mill over 5 years
mdthedream : 1/25/2023 7:56 am : link
That would be cheap esp late in that contract. Hell Russell Wilson makes more than that.

It was a $260 mill deal with $133 gtd...
The initially linked article
fkap : 1/25/2023 8:39 am : link
was poorly written.

If you go to a link within the link, it clarifies that it was 250/5 with 133 guaranteed.

I'm thinking that is reasonable, but will quickly be eclipsed.
Geno Smith

won't be all that affordable soon.
It isn't meanbunny's reading comprehension that's off
WillieYoung : 1/25/2023 8:45 am : link
It's the NY Post's reporting ability.

Because they are making it look like they tried so they can tag him probably the non exclusive and take the picks
You can say all you want that QB prices
Section331 : 1/25/2023 9:42 am : link
are overinflated, but in the current environment, 5/$133 is not a serious offer. In fact, it borders on insulting. I guess Balt really doesn’t want Lamar back.

The last thing you want to do as a GM is propose a contract for what someone has done in the past vs what you think they can do in the future.

Have you read the thread at all? It has been pointed out that the $133 mill was his guaranteed money on a $260 mill extension.
An idea I heard and thought was interesting...
Vin_Cuccs : 1/25/2023 10:13 am : link
...was having a separate cap strictly for quarterbacks which would be a certain percentage of the total salary cap.

I know people really don't like him, and he does say some foolish things, but I think this was a Colin Cowherd idea.

You would think with all the turd recent contracts of Wilson, Murray and the Cleveland Groper, GMs would learn. But of course not.

I agree with you and ……..to tell what my strategy would be on DJ is, make a reasonable offer, maybe or not, scout a mid-round QB . Put ALL your scouts opinions on the table. Discuss where, what round to take 1/2 names . Move on roll the dice and move to the next item on your to-do list. Learn from the mistakes other teams have caused themselves.

I feel that Barkley, for as good as he may be (my opinion only) , has reached his expiration date. RB’s generally have a short shelf life. He might take less $$$ than he might get other places. Let’s roll the dice on him and concentrate on OL, DL, maybe a standout WR and very late P who is consistent!
