Q: When do you plan to start those negotiations with the agents about extensions? Is there any urgency to get it done before that tag deadline to lock one of those guys in?
Schoen: We haven’t discussed that yet. Again, we’re going to meet as a staff on Thursday. We’ve got all-star games coming up. The last couple days have been a lot of – we did exit meetings yesterday with the entire football team, each player individually, working on calendars as we move forward the next couple weeks, so we mirror personnel calendars with the coaches. We’ll have those meetings on Thursday, and those will continue through the weekend.
One really gets the sense that this group doesn't just throw darts
Believe me, this is a guy who does his homework.
No way would he have drafted Kadarius Toney or DeAndre Baker.
the combine is a notorious legal tampering venue for early FA conversations to begin because all of the agents and gms are together having a multitude of discussions just weeks ahead of UFA.
each of their agents is likely to gauge their markets and take their conversations right up to the deadline in march before UFA to exhaust every permissible conversation they can to see what kind of market is out there for "a top rb in FA" or a "dual threat 26 year old starting QB". both players are close enough to UFA that they are unlikely to sign below what the UFA prices would be.

The agents don’t wait for the Combine. Their job is to know their clients’ market value at all times, and they do.
I can see Jones being done prior to the end of the season. I can also see Dexter given a long term deal. These are the guys you build around.
Barkley and Love will also be guys they will focus on. I can see Barkley tagged if they can't agree on the numbers.

jones + saquons agents each know the same way we do they cant tag both of them, so there's a chance one of them hits the open market.

the agents may know their market value but they dont know what moves teams are going to make and how much cap room they will have.
they dont know if aaron rodgers is going to retire or not.
they dont know who is going to trade for hopkins.
they dont know that the raiders are about to give up 30m for davante adams or the dolphins for tyreek hill.
the teams who made deals like that last year in early march likely didn't know themselves that they were going to get those players or that they were even available until february. the jets went aggressively for hill and didnt get him, which then gave them a lot of money to pivot to other players.
so yes jones' agent has a number that he believes his client to be worth. you can bet the aav of his agent's starting position is > 40m per year right now, and likely to stay there right past the moment the giants acknowledge he's not far off that amount if he gets tagged at 32m.
If Jones or Barkley signs soon, one side made a mistake. That would be a signal the Giants blew them away with an offer, or the agent was stupid enough to not wait for the market to develop.
Do much to do to close the talent gap on this team

He drafted Evan Neal at 7 and a midget in the 2nd rd.
Combine in 5 weeks, FA in around 7 weeks
Draft in 90 days
I will be in Italy for draft. Boo. Voiced my concerns to my wife, she said I was ridiculous. Lol.
Will be checking out BBI quiet a bit.

Both fair points, lets see how he does with a full year of implementing his system. Can't judge a class off their first season.

Neal was #2 on the Cowboys draft board, so let's not pretend he wasn't highly rated. Robinson was starting to play well before the ACL injury - which has nothing to do with his height.
It's not a guarantee of all things in the future, but to try and ignore or minimize it as bad luck would be folly. Same thing with Ojulari, got to step back and be smart and cover your bases.

Ojulari's issues may be from overtraining.
As to Robinson - have you seen DeVonta Smith? Yes he's taller but he has a very slight build.

You want to tell me what the character issues are with Evan Neal and Wandale Robinson?

Ojulari is 5'8" 175? Wow, he looks bigger on TV.
