They save me hours of endless scrolling through TV/Movie apps for hours and then going to bed without watching anything because now it's too late to watch anything. lol
Aronofsky film with Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem. My girlfriend at the time wanted to see it, so we actually saw it in the movie theatre. I can say confidently that it was the most uncomfortably weird movie I've ever seen at the theatres.
I honestly did not like the movie. It just felt so over the top artsy fartsy. But I do give it credit for being completely unique and unlike anything else I've seen. Very werid.

I'll be honest, I typically don't line anything that could be called "artsy fartsy" but when this one clicked for me and I realized what was going on it worked for me. I really liked that one.
It’s like an acid trip of a movie, included Mr. T as a bearded lady and machine toting dreadlock wearing giant eyeballs called the “rastafari”. Rasta far eye.
Wow, I remember that movie from when I was a kid. Didn't it star Bill from Bill and Ted?

Maybe? It’s been probably close to 20 years since I watched it and I was definitely intoxicated somehow when I did.

I saw it in the theater too. Fun experience, people walked out etc.
I liked it quite a bit, especially once I realized it’s a retelling of the Bible.
Of course he is best known for the classic Re-Animator (1985). A must film for any horror fan, especially cult horror. One of the best horror films ever made.
But his long career has many excellent entries, including but not limited to:
was fun/quirky.
Frank
Eating Raoul (I believe Mary Woronov was an Andy Warhol "superstar" back in the day)
Pink Flamingos if you can stomach Divine eating dog shit
Aronofsky is one of my must see directors. The Whale was strange but definitely not in the same category of weird as some of his other work. Fraser was great, he lifted and otherwise ok movie.
Somewhat off topic & I might have mentioned it before, but I watched 'Sixteen Candles' not too long ago. Good Lord...that movie doesn't hold up well in 2023.
As if 2023's films standards are anything to take seriously lol
But you are right. There are shows like How I Met your mother, that, at the time the show aired I was embarrassed to admit I watched but not even a decade later a show like that is labeled "problematic" by some weirdo online who is probably 15 years younger than I am. Weird how shows like Friends become way too edgy and upsetting for today's crop of winners.

Oh yeah I forgot I had "Mother!" on my to watch list and completely forgot about that one until ... now.
Synecdoche, New York
Audition
I'm Thinking of Ending Things
City of Lost Children
Being John Malkovich
Enter the Void
Devs (It's a show, not a movie, but it's got Nick Offerman and Stephen McKinley Henderson and a great Free Will vs Determinism debate. It's really fantastic.)

There’s a really great documentary on the producers of that film on Netflix. Those guys just were notorious for making garbage movies.
got me thinking of his 2 movies - Ex Machina (might be my #1 sci-fi movie) and Annihilation (weirder of the 2).
He's one of those must-see guys for me. I enjoyed Annihilation too. As a stand alone story that's a weird movie but he made it work. I might have enjoyed it more than the book.

This movie and its plot were weird. However, it kept my interest with really high level performances by Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon.
It is described as a dark comedy... but the plot was very heavy. I recommend it.
We saw this the other night. Agree with your description. Weird and dark, but it kept my interest. Great acting, cinematography and music. Strange plot.
'Red Flags' - ( New Window )
"A homicidal car tire, discovering it has destructive psionic power, sets its sights on a desert town once a mysterious woman becomes its obsession"
Keep em coming.

Are two of my favorites . Dennis Hopper’s portrayal of Frank Booth is a classic of Hollywood evil characters.
Funny, I still do that.
For years, whenever he heard anyone mention Heineken, a friend of mine would yell "Heineken? Fuck that shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon!" 🤣
I honestly did not like the movie. It just felt so over the top artsy fartsy. But I do give it credit for being completely unique and unlike anything else I've seen. Very werid.

I thought it was bizarre and hilarious.
Dave Made a Maze
Quite an odd movie, but fun.
Yes very good movie. Vivarium was also good, if you can overcome the anxiety.
Wow, I remember that movie from when I was a kid. Didn't it star Bill from Bill and Ted?

I’m a reasonable guy but I’ve just experienced some very unreasonable things.

Good call. Fucking stupid movie.
But his long career has many excellent entries, including but not limited to:
From Beyond
Edmond
Dagon
King of the Ants
Stuck
All weird and brilliant.

Love The Wrestler, though
I just watched it again recently.. still very creepy and weird.

Also loved Pi.
The director of Gummo also did Spring Breakers which was weird and unexpected.

He called it a piece of shit.
