The Eagles scrapped a pass-first approach

and built around Jalen Hurts.

I'm not sure if this is behind a pay wall. If it is and it frustrates people I'll delete. I found it interesting.

The Philadelphia Eagles are one win away from the Super Bowl in large part because their coaching staff has molded the offense to maximize quarterback Jalen Hurts. In 2021, rookie Coach Nick Sirianni ditched a floundering, pass-first approach midseason and leaned hard into his quarterback’s special running ability, which laid the foundation for a breakout. This year, the Eagles became a juggernaut by forcing defenses to play 11-on-11.

The Eagles steamrolled opponents by running and passing. Deep shots against Washington, zone read against Jacksonville, yards after the catch against Arizona. It helped to have perhaps the best supporting cast in the NFL — an elite offensive line, very good skill players, a stout defense, an analytical coach — but Hurts’s growth also elevated passing concepts.

Despite the growth of his offense and his quarterback over the last year, Sirianni said the coaching staff hasn’t deviated from the process that got them here. During the off week, coaches met to reevaluate their approach. Sirianni said he learned some parts of the offense were performing better than he’d realized while others weren’t working, lessons he’ll incorporate into the game on Sunday.

“This is a constant [evolution],” he said. “If you’re not adapting and evolving, you’re going to get passed up.”

How the Eagles scrapped a pass-first approach and built around Jalen Hurts - ( New Window )
I don't know

Maybe I'm just being a hater, but "it helps to have the best supporting cast in the NFL" really can't be overstated, IMO. Yes, Hurts has played really well. I just can't get past the belief that you could probably sub-in 10-15 guys in that offense and get excellent results (adjusting for the particular guy's strengths/weaknesses of course - i.e., not everyone is as good a runner as hurts, though I think others would elevate the passing game even further).
I agree

I think it all starts with this "an elite offensive line".

I completely agree, Hurts has shown himself to be good but I'm not a believer in his elite status yet. The roster is loaded.
Not accurate to say 2022 Eagles are not a pass-first

There was somewhat of a shift when Hurts took over in 2021, yes. But the 2022 Eagles are a pass-first, modern NFL offense.

Eagles 14-play first TD drive vs Giants last week:

Pass
RB Run
Pass
QB Run
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
RB Run
Pass
RB Run

I recall watching the Eagles' exhibition opener vs the Jets. The opening drive was the only one Hurts played in the entire preseason. Eagles went 80 yards in six plays. Every play was a called pass play and Hurts was 6 for 6 for 80 yards, looking very confident about what he was doing.

For the year, Eagles gained 4105 yards passing, a thousand yards more than the Giants did, and 2509 rushing, ten yards less than NYG ran for. This despite the fact that teams that are leading rush more and the Eagles led in most of their games, far more than the Giants did.
And arguably best starting WRs and TE group

Easy to look good at QB
The play-by-play for the Eagles' first TD drive against NYG

is for the game at Metlife, not the playoff.

But point is the same.
They scrapped their original play caller too

Cunt faced Sirianni had PC taken from him sometime last year and then they played better I. The second half. They spun that shot pretty well but I am hoping Steichen gets a HC job. Think it will make a difference. Eagles have a Baltimore ravens vibe to them. Hurts throws better. LJ is a better runner, but both are dynamic in different ways with their legs. The running game beats the shit out of the D and stresses them so much when they do throw it when they want, how they want, to who they want with all day to throw to wide open receivers. That’s a function of elite talent and smart scheming.
Hurts has arguably the best OL in the NFL, and the best WR

corp in the NFL. There are 15-20 QBs who could pay the position in his place and not miss a beat.

it is apparent they figured out our DLINE did NOT want to play the run, they wanted to rush the passer. This is concerning for me. Go watch it. Also, they talk a LOT of trash.

Yep. And the reverse is also true:

It’s hard for a QB to put up numbers with the 30th ranked OL, mediocre (at best) WR’s and a decent but far from great pass catching TE.

Oddly, they never say that about Burrow
