The Giants finished the year 28th in Run Defense giving up an average of 146.3 yards per game. The Giants D gave up 521 rush yards in 2 games against the Eagles, another 211 rush yds vs Baltimore. You have to go all the way back to the 2017 season for a year in which we didn’t allow any opponent to rush for over 200 yards in a game.
You have to go back to 2016 for a year in which our run defense was a top unit. The Giants only allowed only 6 opponent to rush over 100 yards. The most yards allowed in one game was to the GB in the regular season (147). The Giants run defense ranked 4th in the league in 2016.
Daboll & Schoen have a potential 2 headed monster to contend with…..they not only have to contend with rebuilding the defense, but they may also have to replace Wink and what he brings to a unit that has done as best it can with limited to no talent at LB. It’s a blessing and a curse that our coordinators are already in jeopardy of leaving so early in our rebuild.
We were getting killed all year due to poor MLB play but the Eagles just took it the limit.
Second is adding a starting caliber DE and also more quality depth along the DL.

Loved him. Besides, this 2-man DL business needs to end. The Giants need a 3-man DL again. I'm sure Wink went with what worked best with the personnel on hand, but getting a player like Dalvin back here would be a very positive step forward.
And Thibs may be the only decent Front 7 guy on the whole roster that can get to the sideline on runs to the outside.
Would have been interesting to see if Beavers could have helped.
Need to add an ILB in Free Agency and draft another no later than Rd 4.
Our DC probably did more with less than any coordinator I’ve ever seen. He might be the most important and best coach on the team.

What sucked is that the MLB they drafted, and was on a path to starting relatively quickly, tore his ACL.
The only way to cover tight ends is to get middle linebackers who can cover the tight ends.
With our lack of ILBs and DE's good against the run, the only way to stop the running attack would have been to commit mmore players forward (quantity over quality thing). However this would have left the back of the defense exposed to a lot of long plays. Wink/Daboll made the right decision, trade off the run for limiting the big plays. Make the offense earn it

Would be where I’d start. The line was dominant with him, Dex and Leo.

I would love this also. Spotrac estimates he will get 8.5M/yr. I'd be good with that.
Go back and look at those teams. The MLBs on that team Carson, Reasons and Pepper along with a monster like Banks on the outside made most of the tackles. The DL holds their own on the LBs come in for the tackles. Our LBs have plain stunk for years.
Being able to read offenses. How many times this year do we have linebackers biting on play-action, misdirection, screen passes, etc?
If Tomlinson is available for 8.5m, that is a pretty easy decision. Doesn't prevent a high draft choice either.
either.
Why, why is that an "easy choice"
Tomlinson plays nose in a 3-4.So a re you advocating for Lawrence Togo back to DE?_
