What a difference 2 weeks make

Chris684 : 1/29/2023 9:05 pm
This time 2 weeks ago we were basking in the glory of our 1st playoff win since SB46.

2 weeks later and we’re licking our wounds after another beat down at the hands of the Eagles while they’re in their way to another Super Bowl.

I know we’re on the right track and overall this was a really positive season but once again the Eagles are fucking everything up.

When does it end with these guys? When do we get to torment them for 20 years straight?
Look on the bright side

Kellen Moore was just sacrificed.
We likely keep our staff and get a ton of picks.
More cap space.
Eagles could lose in the Super Bowl and come undone from the fall from Grace.

Will have a lot of player personnel decisions to make soon

Fall from grace? Lose in the SB AND have the 10th pick in the draft. Yeah, what a terrible situation, that can really destroy a team that has few old players.
Meh.

The beatdown was not that surprising. The Eagles' success isn't ideal, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this was a very good season from a team that had zero expectations.

I'm in the same place I was two weeks ago. The Giants have a good coach, finally, and are moving in the right direction for the first time in over a decade.

Exactly this. Don’t get me wrong, they’ll still be very good, but they have an aging roster at certain spots, and a lot of difficult decisions to make with pending free agents considering they will be up against the cap. Especially when they pay Hurts handsomely.

Can’t compare the Giants and the Eagles though. Not yet. They are in two very different places. The Giants took a step forward this season, and whatever the Eagles did/do doesn’t impact that.
Eagles have a lot of 30 year olds in key spots

On their roster. Their two best offensive lineman are half step away from retirement. Take heart.
Believe it when I see it

Those waiting for the fall seem to be ignoring how well run/built that team is and how quickly they completely re-tooled the roster after the last run.

Is it possible they start to fall off a cliff? Sure. But them heading to the Superbowl and carrying two first round picks including one in the top 10 doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies about their impending doom. It's unfortunately the eagle way. Finally get rid of whatever asshole has been tormenting us for 5-10 years and some new one pops up.
Don't fret about the Eagles.

Focus on what we are doing.
I am confident it will come good in a season or two.

The Eagles will so obviously trade one of their first round picks for multiple top 50 picks and be prepared to refresh. And they’ll bag a bunch of comp picks when the old guard gets overpaid in UFA.

The only thing that will get in Philly’s way of restocking is if Lurie loses his mind and gives personnel control to Sirianni.
Unfortunately, the Eagles

are likely the best run franchise in the NFL. They definitely mortgaged the future for their current run, but past experience says they will find a way to pay it off (see Wentz, Carson). Almost no cap space next year and that is with Hurts on his rookie deal. They have a lot of dead money next year, but the real pain is 2024 when they have to resign Jalen, they have a lot of dead money, and Kelce, Slay, Graham, Cox, etc. are likely distant memories. They also got really lucky on the injury front this year. Hopefully they get spanked by the Chiefs and the decline begins. But probably not.
Im not too worried about the Eagles long term

they have 8 players that played more than 50% of the snaps as FA and are already over the cap with the 2nd highest dead cap at $28 mil. They alo had a bunch of aging vets sign with them for a shot at a Superbowl.

Im not saying they are going to drop off a cliff but they will come back to the pack. And you know when/if they win the Superbowl those guys are going to want to get paid.

They also have a bad cap situation in 2024 with Jalen Hurts set to be a FA.

Jalen will most likely get a monster contract extension after this season, so hopefully it strap them a bit for next season.
