Could very well be. The Griffeys? The Bonds'? The Mannings (two sons)?
A great hockey player

Maybe the only one with both father and son in their respective hall of fame?

not sure.

Feared slap shot

At a time when goalies didn’t even wear masks….
Yes, I'd say the best father son combo by a fairly wide margin
Greg from LI : 1/30/2023 11:45 am : link
The only father-son Hall of Famers that I can think of. Bobby Bonds and Ken Griffey Sr. were very good players and All-Stars, but not HoF caliber.
I saw him play
prh : 1/30/2023 11:52 am : link
In 1962 at the old garden. It was my first live hockey game, fell in love with the sport from that moment on. He and Stan Mikita both scored.
RIP Golden Jet

yes when he was in his 40s. Typical Ranger move. Hull, Guy LaFleur, Espo, Doug Harvey, Gretzky. THey get them all after their primes.

Bernie Geoffrion, Jacques Plante, Eric Lindros, Theo Fleury, Brad Richards, Marty St. Louis, Brendan Shanahan, Glenn Anderson, Jari Kurri, Kevin Stevens...the list is endless. It's the Rangers Way.
RIP

with Stan Mikita.
And since we’re talking about families….
Greg from LI : 1/30/2023 12:52 pm : link
Dennis Hull was no slouch either. Not on a level with his brother or nephew, of course, but a solid winger who scored 303 goals in his career.

Hull-Hull are in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Howe-Howe are there also. Tough to decide which combo was better. I don’t think there is an NHL Hall of Fame but I could be wrong about that.
His table hockey game was outstanding
bluefin : 1/30/2023 2:43 pm : link

Genius design, well built and fun for years - best sports game/toy of its era (circa 1970)
I remember seeing him
Bill in UT : 1/30/2023 2:50 pm : link
and Mikita in the old Garden. That was quite a team
I was once in an elevator with him in 1998
Will Shine : 1/30/2023 3:14 pm : link
when he came to our community to clarify reports of anti-Semitic and racist remarks.
I usually forget that Mark Howe is in the Hall of Fame
Greg from LI : 1/30/2023 3:43 pm : link
Probably because he really shouldn't be there. Good player, but likely not a Hall of Famer if his name were Mark Jones.

Love. that game. My son and I would play for hours
Hull was so powerfully built, so compact,
ColHowPepper : 1/30/2023 4:16 pm : link
I can still see him going into his backswing for his slap shot, I knew something bad would happen to the Rangers, or whoever he was playing against. So smooth and fast through its cycle. No slouch as a skater, man, the Old Garden. Hull, Balfour, and Hay threw jitters into your heart, and then over the boards would come the Scooter Line. A Golden Era of sorts.
RIP

I remember going to Rangers games at the old Garden as well. There were only 6 teams in the NHL and it was before masks, so you really knew who everyone was on both teams. A golden era indeed.
Sucks for him
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/30/2023 9:53 pm : link
That his legacy has been marred by all the off the ice stuff. He deserves it.

Del, and only radio to take in most of the games unless TV broadcasts on the weekend! The NHL was the Seven Sisters of the Poor among 'major' sports as far as networks were concerned. And left to the imagination, some of the players took on larger than life impressions.
