Kellen Moore to Chargers - ( New Window )
Nice upgrade for them... and him.

What great timing for the Chargers
ZogZerg : 1/30/2023 1:42 pm : link
That was a no-brainer
that didn't take long
Ron Johnson : 1/30/2023 1:44 pm : link
did they even interview him?
What a relief for him
eric2425ny : 1/30/2023 1:45 pm : link
Gets to run an offense with Herbert instead of Dak.
I wonder
Joe Beckwith : 1/30/2023 1:49 pm : link
If he had an offer, officially, after the whistle blew down Dallas, and they tried to get him to stay, but saved faced with that ‘ mutual agreement’ announcement?
Chargers need to fix their D to help Hebert.

At least he’s out of that situation, and the NFCE.

Hoping for a Jason Garrett reunion, and maybe a JJudge- JG Co-OC scenario.

Still think Staley...

is a significant problem but Moore is a nice hire to replace Lombardi.
Trying to fix Dak
joe48 : 1/30/2023 1:54 pm : link
Jerry Jones is grasping at straws trying to get his $50M QB fixed. Got rid of Dez, Cooper and now Moore.
love that move for herbert and moore
Eric on Li : 1/30/2023 1:55 pm : link
he took dak's game to another level and won games this year with cooper rush.

i think moore is every bit as good as kafka was for nyg this year and if he can get even 1% more out of herbert that's going to be a problem for everyone else.

That Dak 2019 season is one to keep an eye on as a model.

Dak has become THE problem with the Dallas O. He's clearly not seeing the field well anymore and it looks like his arm has lost zip.

But this has all the earmarks of a "fall guy" move to deflect those issues.

Unless there is an undisclosed injury, if I'm Dallas it's time to part ways with Dak and find another solution.

I think a big issue with Dak is his movement in the pocket
Rick in Dallas : 1/30/2023 2:07 pm : link
He was really terrific at extending plays. The ankle injury appears to have taken something off his fastball when throwing the football especially to the sidelines.
wonder who the Cowboys will get
Pork Chop : 1/30/2023 2:08 pm : link
I assume they are replacing the OC even though McCarthy is going to call the plays. I don't know enough about it, but it has to be a less-attractive position if you're not calling the plays right? Leftwich is a big name but would he go somewhere if he's not calling the plays?

Given the official stance of the Cowboys as reflected in their twitter, if they could get rid of Prescott right now they would. His contract makes that impossible.
I thought he'd get a head coaching gig

It's kind of nice
DieHard : 1/30/2023 2:54 pm : link
to witness an NFC East team barrel towards a crash, and it's not the Giants. Is there any doubt this McCarthy-as-OC experiment will fail with Dak, and ends with Quinn getting elevated to HC after another wasted season?

Meanwhile, this is a great move for Moore. As long as the offense shows improvement, he'll be in position to take over as Chargers HC if Staley can't turn his defense around.
On NFL live....

They're lamenting a dearth of talent on the Cowboys and that they need playmakers. Dak, Pollard, Lamb, Schultz, Zeke, and company aren't playmakers?

Joe Judge...........come on dowwwwwwn.
Dak is a solid QB
Lines of Scrimmage : 1/30/2023 6:10 pm : link
bur for what he is paid it makes it tough to keep all the talent around him. They lost Cooper and the WR's took a bit of a hit.

Same deal the last two years in the playoffs. They don't run to the in season success and then that puts more on Dak and as a team they come up short.

Glad Dallas fired Moore. He seems like the fall guy. And I don't get Jerry's love for McCarthy. That said, if Dallas comes slow out of the gates this coming fall...I could see Mike getting the axe for Quinn.

Good point for 2023. I saw Dak's dead cap hit in 2023 is $89M with a cap hit $49M.

Dez Bryant really. Bryant left Dallas in 2017, that's 5 years ago. It took Bryant two years to get back into the league after Dallas released him. He returned in 2020 and played 6 games with the Ravens. And that was his career. I think Dallas made the right call.

Cooper was traded because Dallas felt his production didn't match his salary. Then after the trade WRs got paid ridiculous money. As it turned out 20 million for Cooper was actually market value. But by then he was no longer in Dallas.

Moore did a great job while in Dallas. But the system he runs were viewed as simplistic and predictable. There were many time that opposing defensive players said they knew what Dallas was going to do by seeing the formation and down and distance.

After the SF loss there were many breakdowns of this. The most daming I thought was Kurt Warner. He said that Prescott played badly, but we all knew that. What Warner showed was the schemes that Dallas ran were easy to read. Sometimes Warner said he couldn't figure out what they were trying to accomplish. Moore did a bad job putting the players in positions to win.

Dallas may actually benefit with a new look and vision on offense.
Kellen Moore wanted out
fanatic II : 1/31/2023 2:46 pm : link
It has been reported by Mike Garafolo that Moore approached Dallas management that he wanted out and was granted his wish.

The narrative that he was a sacrificial lamb or fired is not true.
