The 2023 Salary Cap will be $224.8M

Semipro Lineman : 1/30/2023 6:25 pm
according to the NFL Network sources. Overthecap has the Giants with the third most space at $44.7M. Meanwhile the Cowboys are $5M over the cap with about $8M of that being dead money.

a link to the Overthecap page with every's team salary cap space. The Giants got more cap space than the rest of the NFC East combined. Of course, Philly doesn't care about that right now but it will be interesting to see if "Mr. How do you let that man out of the building" Darius Slay gets to stay in the building with his $26M salary cap number. Also, will Dallas keeps Demarcus Lawrence and others since Dak is uncuttable despite having a nearly $50M salary cap number.

Hurts is going to command a pretty penny, which-in theory-should hamstring some of what the Eagles can do.
If they make Golladay a post-June 1 cut (saves $13.5M on the cap)...

And tag Jones at $32.4M, they will have $26.6M in cap space remaining.
Dallas has an elite vet laden defense,

Highly paid OL, RB and QB. They should be close to the cap. Their window to win was the last couple of years and this year. With some creativity and luck they should be good next year too, but they can’t keep everyone. They already dumped Cooper last year. Who is next if anyone remains to be seen. If needed they can probably restructure a few vets and kick the can down the road.

What Dallas needs to worry about

Is parsons and that cb are due to get paid soon.

I have a hard time understanding. Dead money, all that stuff confuses me. Can anyone recommend a site where the cap gets broken down for idiots? This idiot would like to learn.

This is by far the best overview out there:

Taking into account a 53 man roster and assuming the Giants sign and keep all of their draft picks, the Giants are about 40M under the 2023 cap.

Assuming they also cut Golladay, then they’ll be about 47M under.

So yes the Giants are well below the cap, but the elephant in the room is Jones. If the Giants and Jones cannot come to terms and he’s tagged the entire off season will look very different.

That would leave the Giants at about 14.5M under the cap. And as we see year-in-and-out a team needs about 10M to operate and navigate injuries and the practice squad.
I think

both Leonard and Adoree are offered extensions to keep the core of the defense together and bring down their 2023 cap hits.
It might not matter that much
BlackLight : 1/30/2023 11:30 pm : link
but if Golladay is designated as a post-June 1st cut, half of the total cap savings we'd get this year wouldn't become available until after June 1st.

Anyway, the reason I'm quite confident they will reach an agreement with Jones is because even if they overpay him to the tune of $40 million AAV, the Year 1 cap hit will still be significantly lower than the franchise tag number of $32 million. And with the cap set to jump significantly in future years, even a backloaded deal probably won't hamstring the team as much we think it will.

Ultimately, it's in everyone interests that they land on a multi-year deal.

Hurts is on year 3 of a rookie contract. They will tell him to wait until next year.

And some how they will draft "some" player in the 5th round, they eventually trade for a first round pic, UGH!! Forget our possible upcoming OC/DC woes, an we poach their entire front office.

I don’t doubt they are offered. But the reason both players negotiated shorter, 3-year deals was to enter UFA at an age where they could cash in again.

Both players are coming off injuries and lower production. I doubt their representation bearish about negotiating extensions. My guess is one or both bet on themselves and angle for UFA after this year.

Is this correct? So all OL have the same tag number? No differentiation between say, LT and RG? I find that difficult to believe
