Holy crap are they in trouble. $55 mill over the cap? There does not appear to be any way to recoup the money to help them out of that hole unless his contract has an out clause(?).
played one more year, that is pathetic on her part. I do not know if he promised to retire and went back on his word, but it is still pathetic.
He needs to stay retired. He was pretty pathetic last season
Coming from divorced parents I find it comical people who never stepped foot in that house entirely point blame on Brady. Like most things in life the answer is probably somewhere in the middle. Ultimately sucks most for the kids. Irreparable Damage.

On the surface that’s true, but I generally believe whatever we think we know about someone’s marriage, we only know a small fraction of what’s gone on. I’ve always suspected there’s more to that story, which is their business
As for Brady the player. I’m reminded of what Eli went through - more often than not, it’s the player himself who’s last to realize it’s time to hang them up. I don’t criticize them for it, guys with that level of competitiveness are a different breed

It doesn’t even look like they have any reasonable cuts that can free up a lot of money. Cutting Donovan Smith gets them $10m, and a few other can get them a few million, but nowhere close to $55m. Link - ( New Window )

You are right in that WTF knows. I cannot blame women that leave because of abuse/infidelity, etc. I would find it sad if Gisele walked because he played another season. We do not know if he promised to retire a couple years in a row. She certainly did not end her career. Tom didn't seem to be an absentee dad.
You are right, it does not help he kids.
if Brady’s retirement and Donovan Smith’s release are post June 1st.
right.. i misremembered.
According to Joe Corry's cap podcast, if Brady pushed the retirement after the league year, they could have signed him for a small contract and split the dead money over 2 years.
But now it seems with Brady's announcement now, the Bucs will have a $35M cap hit this season, the 2nd highest all time, effectively screwing Tampa for 2023. And what this announcement may signal is that Brady is going to another team, because if he was truly retiring he could have just waited, but if he is playing for someone else, there was no way around the cap hit for Tampa.
I linked to the episode below from last week.
The whole ep is about Brady but the most relevant to the final implications starts around 9:40.
Just like the basketball GOAT Michael Jordan, it was hard for him to walk away on top as the thirst for competing and championships was strong. I respect the way he posted a simple video, no big presser or 500 word essay. I doubt he changes his mind again, he’s doing this on his terms not to please Giselle.
No way Rodgers retires this year. Going into the HOF , under TB’s shadow is not going to fly with AR.
He was never retiring he's just an attention whore who can't face the music as he's repeatedly bounced from the playoffs.
It has to be a tough decision for a guy like Rodgers and Brady. That's why the greats seem to go back and forth so much. When you factor in their love of the game, the money, their desire to compete and father time, it has to be a very tough decision. Then the media asks you about it all the time. So it seems like they are attention whores, but they are asked 40 times per day and they probably truly don't know what they want to do and want to make sure their teams are still pushing to improve.
they have at least two better options: Trey Lance and Jimmy G. If they think a guy with a torn ligament in his throwing arm will be fine, they have three.
He looked cooked in the playoffs and that Tampa Bay offense has some weapons and a decent O coordinator. Too bad he didn't go out on top, but that's a minor negative.

JG is a free agent and Lance is still an unknown. That said I would agree that him going there isn’t some slam dunk, I’m not sure Shanahan wants to deal with the decline of a 46 year old player.

FYI:
1 - Jimmy G is a free agent (and he sucks).
2 - Trey Lance sucks right now too and is young and dumb.
3 - Purdy is a JAG and is hurt.
the Nort East , especially New England, won’t get Tampa Bay broadcasts instead of the Giants.
But the NFL will burn their territorial protection in to N.E. by showing Philthy if they win the SB.
Cmon KC!
I’ll even root for “Bad KT”…. for 3+ hours on 2/12/23….yuck.
tampa bay games last year. Brady isn't perfect anywhere. He can't do the things physically that he's always done. Brady is finished. Say it with me.....Brady is finished.

Brady would be the PERFECT one year stop gap.
I disagree that Jimmy G sucks. I think he's better than average. How do we know Trey Lance sucks? He either has bad luck or injury prone, but I don't think we've seen enough of him to know. I thought Purdy was going to be exposed at some point and it never happened. Who knows how good he is?
But Brady seemed physically incapable in the playoff game, to me, which is not something you would say about any of the other guys. Add to that the lack of escapeability that seems necessary in today's NFL, and I still think the 9ers have better options.

I agree that he would be the perfect one year stop gap where Lance and Purdy could learn under him for the the future, and even replace him if things just weren't going well.
Brady was in a bad spot this year and also on a team that could not run the ball. That wouldn't be the case in San Fran. And he'd be better protected. He can still make the throws in the right offense.
Of course it all depends on if Brady still wants it - he just retired so this is probably a moot conversation.
The issue right now is San Fran is built to win and probably the best team in the NFC (maybe football) if they could get their QB situation right.
Aaron Rodgers is probably the VERY best fit and could be had for draft choices I'm sure.
tampa bay games last year. Brady isn't perfect anywhere. He can't do the things physically that he's always done. Brady is finished. Say it with me.....Brady is finished.
Didn't he lead the league in attempts and yardage?
He's not the same player he was, if that's finished then I'll agree.
He'd have to be in the perfect spot. San Fran is the perfect spot.
yea they got wrecked by a better team in the playoffs, but Brady's arm still looks more than capable. Matt Ryan's arm looked more done last year. Philip Rivers and Drew Brees had water pistols for arms at the end. Peyton looked practically handicapped physically at the end. Brady is still throwing ropes. I mentioned it on a Rodgers thread recently but I actually see more obvious physical decline in Rodgers than I do Brady.
He's 46 so he could fall off a cliff in a nanosecond. You can't rely on his health. But from what I actually saw last year, he definitely still has the arm for it.

With the San Fran defense and the WR/TE/RB combinations they have on offense, I'm sure Brady would distribute the football just fine.
Hell, Purdy was doing ok too. That team is ultra talented.
A lot of what you saw this year was mental fatigue on Brady IMO.
Look, if that personal life stuff remains and he doesn't want the game anymore, then he's be a horrible choice for San Fran.
was the 3rd worst in the NFL. He had 2 top end receivers in Evans and Godwin. He had a few good complimentary receivers in Julio Jones and Gage. He does not have the arm strength anymore and he wore down as the season went on. As to be expected when you are 45 years old. His arm is only going to get worse. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole, no matter what team it is. He's toast.
Regardless, I believe him when he says he's had enough. He looked like he had enough around week 10.
RE: RE: I don't know why everyone assumes he's headed to San Fran
Why do people say Jimmy G sucks? He gets hurt, but thats not sucking. There are QBs that I am sure we all wishe would get hurt so we didn't have to see their crap anymore.
Jimmy Garoppolo has a 53-21 record in his career. The 49ers were a goner until he came back.
I believe this is indeed the end for TB12. I wish he had stayed retire the first time. He looked completely washed @ times this season &-for him personally-I think him returning cost him his marriage. All for an 8-9 season ending with a whipping @ home by Dallas...sad.
I also think he's going to suck broadcasting.

Technically they weren’t considering there was no drop off with Purdy. Pretty sure their PPG rose with Purdy as well.
Should have just retired after the Tampa Super Bowl, riding off into the sunset as a champion the way Strahan did.
He needs to stay retired. He was pretty pathetic last season
Probably. Which is a shame because Olsen's not bad.
Quote:
Fox is going to regret that big time. I assume he will be taking Olsen's spot?

I do think Olsen could be good and at least he got to do one Super Bowl.

Perhaps when he comes up as a senior candidate
/s
ah.. so maybe that's the hedge
Yeah at this point they're better off seeing what they have in Purdy whenever he comes back.

Hopefully he keeps his mouth shut and let’s the game play out unlike Romo. That clown never shuts the fuck up.

BTW, if I need a QB, I'm still taking Montana or Elway. ;)
He has a lot of pictures of Gisele and his family on Instagram today. Was that shitty year in Tampa worth it. Did he lose that much Bitcoin?
I still expect him elsewhere. I know Miami says they're still on Tua but there's too much smoke there.

Montana and Elway are among the best. But Brady won more super bowls and with two different teams and played at a high level in his mid 40s
No dispute.
It's a style thing for me. Brady is, IMV, the greatest pocket passer that ever lived. He was one dimensional, but a PhD in that dimension.
Montana and Elway were multi-dimensional and could beat you three ways - in the pocket, out of the pocket and running.
