Draft trading down ..... No Elite pick .... 25 vs 30/31 for

MotownGIANTS : 2/1/2023 1:32 pm
an late 3rd or 3rd comp pick would be ideal.

4 picks in the 1st 3 rds should solidfy the CB and WR corp while addressing IOL or ILB based off BPA. Getting another 3rd would go a long way from a qaulity standpoint overall.

Dropping down from 25 to 29/30/31 for a day 2 pick would give us nice capital to strength the team in multiple spots starters and depth.

Seems like a less daunting task when you are not worried about missing a supposed generational talent.

given who we've wound up with late in the 1st Round in the past 10 years.

2021 Kadarius Toney (20)
2019 Deandre Baker (30)
2017 Evan Engram (23)
2012 David Wilson (32) [I'll give him an asterisk]
Look at Jerry Reeses picks in the 3rd round

He missed on every one.
I think this is the first trade down thread!

All depends

On how the draft goes the first 24, the interest to trade by the picks behind 25, the grades on the players still available, and of course the compensation for the #25.
We need WR, IOL, LB, CB.
At #25 not likely to get an elite pick, but I don’t think JS is into elite picks, simply ones that grade out well for are schemes, are smart and dependable…and hate to lose(just my opinion).

Hey each GM has their on grade on a guy if a supposed guy falls that they really believe in go for it but if all things are equal which in our range seems to be more the case normally volumn can be a good thing. Especially with Azeez with lower body durability issues.
my bad

If one of the players they like falls to 25 they would use the pick

If there is isn’t anyone they significantly like I’m sure they would entertain offers to trade down. It’s not really something you can determine ahead of time
In order to trade down

You need a partner who wants a player where you are picking. Easier said than done

What do Jerry Reese and Dave Gettleman's draft choices have to do with what Joe Schoen may or may not do?

Especially when you're down that far. Jumping from 31 to 25 doesnt sound very appealing. Very similar caliber players available. Usually trading up is more appealing to teams in the top 10 to 15

Presumption being they took who was truly their BPA in that range. To the extent they didn't, point taken...but that's something we'll never really know.
Hakeem Nicks was the 29th pick in the draft.

Nicks was so damn good I don’t recall being as excited about a draft pick since. I knew he we going to be the goods. Shame his career was shortened

I guess I differ somewhat from the perspective of a lot of posters but I suspect that Schoen (who doesn't make the picks by the way) and company will not be going into the upcoming draft looking to simply fill 'holes' in the roster. I suspect that they will in fact be looking for an impact WR as well as possibly an impact guy on defense, either a CB or a pass rusher. In that context I would think that they are actually more likely to look to trade up as it appears there will be 3-4 top WR receiver prospects and as many as 4 top CB candidates in the first 20 or so picks. At the same time, it would not shock me if they did not trade up in the first round that they seriously try and move up in the second to get the best player they didn't get in the first. It also wouldn't shock me if they actually end up doing that to get a 2nd WR even if they did get one in the first.

Very interesting! … and who does make the pick if not JS?
The envelope please

HPO: The questions suggests that like the average fan on the street Schoen shows up in the giants war room on draft day, checks off the players as they come off the board abnd then he makes the pick. Fact is during the pre-draft the organization puts together a short list of guys they want and they take the guy at the top of their list still on the board when they make the pick.

If Joe Schoen doesn't make the pick, I'm not sure what he's doing here in the first place.
