Quenton Nelson

CMicks3110 : 2/1/2023 7:03 pm
Do you think he could be available? If so, what do you think the cost would be? and would you be willing to pay it, if reasonable?

I would love this move to be honest. Do the Colts really need an elite offensive guard when they are in rebuilding mode?

We give them our 2nd and a conditional 2024 pick (maybe a 4th that could be a 3rd)

I'd take that deal.

Thoughts?
You might start by asking his father
FranknWeezer : 2/1/2023 7:05 pm : link
They'd probably take that offer in a half-second.
81_Great_Dane : 2/1/2023 7:05 pm : link
The Giants's second alone is too high a price in trade.

Nothing against Nelson, but I might be willing to offer the Giants' higher third-rounder. Maybe.
His play really fell off
BigBlueShock : 2/1/2023 7:07 pm : link
Any team looking to potentially trade for him would have to do a deep dive into why. He makes a lot of money for a guard. He’s fantastic for sure. But I doubt he’s available anyways
We are not one player away
BillT : 2/1/2023 7:09 pm : link
It's just like the "trade for Tee Higgins" crowd. Our roster is still bottom half (maybe third?) in the league. You don't improve a roster by spending a fortune on one player no matter how good he is. We need ten more good players not one. Was the salary cap mess Gettleman left us something you'd like to revisit.
Get a solid young G in the draft

If the Colts aren’t shopping Nelson their not going to give him away. Giants would have to pay a premium in picks to pry him away. If he was a FA then different story..
He was injured this year.
mittenedman : 2/1/2023 7:11 pm : link
Not sure what the injury was, but it was mentioned by a Colts beat reporter during the lead up to our game.
...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 2/1/2023 7:22 pm : link
Dex tossed him around in that Colts game.

I gotta imagine Nelson was dealing with an injury this year because he definitely took a step back & he's still super young.
Nelson is still a 1st round worthy player
Producer : 2/1/2023 7:24 pm : link
maybe mid to late 1st, instead of early. If problems carry into next year, his value will drop.

Boom!
What’s the reference to his father about?
JerrysKids : 2/1/2023 8:06 pm : link
I would love to have a healthy Quintin Nelson but not for the money on his contract and also a second and third round pick. I think a change of scenery would be good for him and he’s a hometown guy so it would be a great match in my opinion. I’m sure they would love to trade him, they have a lot of holes and his play has fallen off a cliff.
Word is his performance has fallen off a bit?
Giant John : 2/1/2023 8:06 pm : link
I’d prefer we build through the draft.
I would do it in a heartbeat
Chip : 2/1/2023 8:19 pm : link
He is 26 and would only count 6 mil against the cap next year. Then you could rework the second year. The interior of the OL has been a problem since O'Hara, Snee and Seubert. Need to have a pocket to step up into. put him next to Thomas and lets go Saquon.

interest. As someone said, we still have a bottom third roster. We aren't one or two players away. We need to build through the draft, not trade precious draft capital for Nelson or anyone else. And for whatever reason, Nelson also had an off year.
You're not getting him
Mr. Nickels : 2/1/2023 11:14 pm : link
for less than a 1st and doubt he is available.

Not saying he should be pursued, but Nelson was out all of October with an ankle injury. It might still have been bothering him on January 1. Lawrence is very good, but he didn't manhandle the Eagles on January 28 when they ran for 268 yards.

B/c they double teamed him and our ILBs are hot garbage

would be at the top of my FA shopping list based on need and $. Rather than use precious resources on Nelson (think he has a lot of great football left), I'd look for B-B+ player. I'd also do some objective assessment and see if Neal will stay at RT or move inside. (I have no idea where he should play).

I think they may need to upgrade 3 positions. But, Ezudu and Bredeson may get the job done as starters.

This pretty much sums it up. Things still have to be cost controlled. I would love Tee Higgins for the Giants, and 6'4 target who is physical. But, things still must be cost controlled. I would not expect a lavish contract given to anyone, when they want Jones back and Barkley is an option to bring back.
So to sum up:
Gruber : 2/2/2023 12:27 pm : link
We can get him for a second.

No, he'll cost a first.

Might be available for a third and a conditional pick elsewhere.

Yeah, do it.

No, don't. Too many holes we need to fill eslewhere.

He's in decline.

He's top drawer.

Dexter's his daddy.
