Figured there are some gamers on this site who could help a father out here….

My 10 yr old son is really into the ‘22 version on his XBox series X and I have to admit, it is a lot of fun.

He really wants to order the pre-release but wants the ICON edition (the most expensive one over the Deluxe and Standard pre-orders) bc of the all bells and whistles the ICON comes with. He especially wants the Ruthless Aggression mode that only comes with the ICON edition.

My question is I cannot find a pre-order for the ICON edition for XBox series X unless it’s a digital copy. He likes having a physical disc for each game which also takes up less of the hard drive on the machine (even though I think it holds 1 TB of data). Has 2k not released ICON edition pre-orders for Xbox series x yet? Or should we pre-order the Deluxe edition physical/disc copy and Ruthless Aggression might be offered as DLC (downloadable content) at some point after release for a price?

My son is really excited for this game and just want to make his day by finding an answer. Thanks in advance!

I’d stop by a GameStop

And ask them
Icon is digital only

The digital-only icon edition includes the game itself from IGN. I'm sure you will be able to buy the Ruthless Aggression Pack at launch or after a period of time.
Physical disc versions no longer take up less hard drive space

they are basically glorified digital editions.

All the disc is used for is so you can start the game - all of the game data is stored on the hard drive.

The only reason to get a disc version is so you can potentially sell or trade in the game when you are done
Ironically I just bought the 22 game with the NWO

Edition last night. That one is also digital only. It seems like they aren’t making disc versions of all of their games anymore. At least the one’s with the upgraded packs.

First, thank you to all for your replies. What I am hearing is:

1. ICON will be digital only
2. It is likely Ruthless Aggression will be available later via DLC
3. Whether I get disc or digital game it takes up the same amount of hard drive space to play the game under either option?

Number 3 is important to my son.

Maybe invest in an external drive
On a side note

I just bought an XBox Series X a few weeks ago. This is the first time I have bought a game system since 2006 (XBox 360).

The graphics and gameplay are insane on this new system. I found the best path unless you need the latest game right away is to wait a bit and get it pre-owned (unless it’s all digital of course). I got NBA 2k22 for 9.99, NHL 22 for 10.99 and the latest Madden for 49.99. These would have all been 69.99 if I bought them new.

I know some like the game pass thing, but for someone like me that plays a few times a week I’d rather just own the game vs. a subscription fee.

Believe me what’s simple for a 10 yo is not so much for us lol. These aren’t bad though basically just plug into usb port and easy instructions to format and set up. Pretty easy for us technologically challenged lol

Correct on #3. There is not hard drive space savings benefit of using the disc. The disc is just a glorified download code at this point.

You can buy a 1 TB expansion pack for the xbox that adds a lot more HD space. XSX games run like normal off that HD.

IF you just get an external USB drive, you can store games on there and then transfer them to the internal HD when you want to play them. XSX games cannot run off external HD drives
