For most of the other teams, this is a time to give the coaching staff some much-deserved time off after the grind of a long season. The Giants are not one of those teams. That is why Brian Daboll and the majority of his coaching staff — including defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka — are here this week, getting what Daboll calls a “jump-start’’ on their preparation for the 2023 NFL Draft. “I just like to come because it’s the initial part of the draft process for me,’’ Daboll told The Post on Thursday. “I haven’t been looking at college players so I like to come down here, it’s a chance to get your eyes on some guys out there on the practice field and also meet with some guys in meetings. “You’re trying to build your team throughout the entire year. It’s important to be down here, you’ve got however many guys you get the chance to watch practice for a few hours each day and get to talk to some of ’em at night. I think it’s a good start.’’ |

Not a bad deal

I was sort of thinking along the same lines.
They are there but we don’t even know if they are still our Coordinators.
That said, I think their presence pretty much is the answer, otherwise if there was truly a probability of getting the job(s) they interviewed for, out of courtesy they would have begged off.
IK it’s a cutthroat business but I have to believe both coordinators have enough respect to not get a free view on the Giants dime.
Until any assistant gets the 'you're hired' call, they're putting in full effort for the Giants. Or they're not worth having on the team.
Impressive that the staff is really working that closely with the personnel folks. Just makes it easy to see how, over time, the roster will be built to mirror what Schoen and Daboll want together. Reminds me of the old Parcells groceries quote. Daboll's cooking dinner and has seen the groceries in the store, too. Kafka and Wink just add to the increased alignment of the respective staffs.

“I’m grateful Dabes loves the process and invests in it,’’ general manager Joe Schoen said at the Senior Bowl. “As we go through it, whether it’s bringing guys in on 30s [private visits at the Giants facility], private workouts and the combine, if I can get Dabes, Kafka and Wink in front of 50, 55 prospects here and then 45 at the combine and our 30 visits, by the time at the end of it the head coach has had exposure to basically our whole draft board.

Schoen and Daboll seem to be a great team. Something we haven't always had in those positions.
Parcells and Young knocked heads a lot. Ernie wasn't a fan of TC, at least initially. TC and Reese ended up doing a very poor job drafting the last X # of yrs. DG and Judge were a team of clowns.
Schoen and Daboll both seem bright, hard working and they seem to like each other. They have me very optimistic for the future.
So far it appears we're very lucky to have JS and Daboll. Hopefully they'll put together a SB winning team and be here for a decade or 2.
Seems like in the past, they just sent the scouts, instead of the decision makers - big mistake.

Don’t forget that great team of Young and Reeves.
