is that game played out like every cliche, corny sports movie would - the underdog team making some miracle play to defeat the juggernaut opponent. But it was actually for real, and the Giants were the ones to pull it off.

Saboll said at the time that the entire play (escape and catch) was the best SB play ever and arguably the best ever play, period.
I actually looked at my best friend and said this gem, "do you really think Eli is going 83 yards and score a TD to win the SB with 2:39 left to play against the Patriot's ?"
And then, that's exactly what he did. Open mouth, insert foot..
I still would like to know what kind of route Tyree was running on the
in Wyomissing, PA and with that big screen; I couldn't feel comfortable it was going to be a catch until after it was reviewed. So while the Giants fans there who were celebrating, I was sitting bracing myself for it to be called "not a catch".
After it was ruled a catch, I immediately was on to the next play and ultimately the pass to Plaxico for the TD. Then we had to brace for Brady getting the ball back. So I didn't really enjoy the enormity of that catch until later at home watching SportsCenter.
I had the pleasure of meeting David at his book signing and I thanked him for the catch of my life!
Little did we know that we would have Manningham's 4 years later and Odell's one handed magic catch vs. Dallas. LOL
my 21st birthday. my (now wife) got drunk on blue curacao and some other juvenile booze. i had two beers and watched post-game highlights all night. good time.

Odell's catch was a good sign we were in a Dork Age for the Giants - as we lost that game.
I don't think I could say it was rated G for me either...
However, certainly one of the greatest moments of my life.
My Dad was suffering from dementia but was still aware enough to watch and follow the game. It was the last such game for him, and he was over the moon about the win...
He passed about a year later.
So it was awesome to have one last win for him to enjoy!
RE: I still would like to know what kind of route Tyree was running on the
play before :) Asante Samuel should've picked it off. Lucky for us, he didn't.
LMAO, I always thought you got too much shit for that. Classic timing though.
The Tyree play is the only time I can recall in my life where I instantly recognized that the play I just watched was possibly the best play ever. I put my hands on my head and just said "that was the best play I've ever seen" to nobody in particular. Surreal experience.
He was born a little over a month later, and he's now in high school
I love this Greg, similarly, my son was born July 2007 and my daughter August 2011!!! (Sorry guys - my "number is retired" and I am too old to help the Giants here).
In April 2008 I took my son to the Giants draft day party at the stadium. We went to a bunch of those vents together, it was always a good time. He was 7 years old when the Giants won that Super Bowl.
They had a bunch of games and events for the kids to participate in in the practice bubble and on the field. I always enjoyed being out on the field, thinking about LT and Simms being on that same field, looking up at the view to my seats, all that nostalgic crap.
Anyway, the whole say while all these events are taking place, they're replaying the Super bowl on the video boards above the stadium. It's nice to have on in the background and nobody is really paying any close attention to it, or so I thought...I'm telling you, the play before the helmet catch everybody goes "HUSH" in the stadium, you could hear a pin drop. Even the people who work there all have their eyes on the video boards. Then of course, The Play, Eli escapes the rush, heaves the ball a mile in the air, Tyree comes down with it..and Giants Stadium ERPUTED like it was a live game! It was freaking awesome and I'm still getting goose bumps as I type this. That was truly special moment in time. It's what you live for as a fan.

Yup. It’s the way I would have felt if Gifford made the first down he swears he made and the refs, amongst the Marchetti broken ankle didn’t misspot the ball. We would have run out the clock as the Colts were out of TOs..☹️
He was born a little over a month later, and he's now in high school
Ha ha similar story here Greg my son was born the day of the week 17 game vs. NE. Held him for both the McQuarters game clinching pick vs Dallas and Tynes winning kick vs. GB. He was fast asleep for the SB though.
never saw this on TV. Good perspective from Eli's view. Link - ( New Window )
If you watch the all 22 of that play, if there was not pressure, Tyree was behind the coverage with a TD with a good pass from Eli. The pressure changed everything.
Good show that talked about that catch from the perspective of the referee (not calling the play dead), Eli (that he could see the top of a blue helmet) and even TC's first thoughts (No, not back over the middle).
That’s scary
Everything I uttered would have been rated X..😎

He hates them more than I do. I raised the boy right.
Crazy how time goes...

Eli won't overthrow Hardy
