4 hours ago New York Giants defensive coordinator Don "Wink" Martindale is considered a a front-runner for the Indianapolis Colts' head-coaching job, according to a source. The Colts are considering a rare third round of interviews with a select few finalist following an extensive second round of interviews that includes nine candidates. The Colts fired Frank Reich in the middle of the 2022 season, and interim head coach Jeff Saturday remains in play for the full-time job despite going 1-7 down the stretch. If the Giants lose Martindale, they could take a look at Lou Anarumo, Steve Wilks, Sean Desai or Jerome Henderson for their defensive coordinator position.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

would suck if true. also what does BBI think about our next d-coordinator being one of
Lou Anarumo
Steve Wilks
Sean Desai
Jerome Henderson

3) How can we get Lou Anarumo?
I don’t know who to believe in but Pat Leonard is not one of them.
So I’ll believe Colts on this one.

a2 #1) I didn't see a BBI thread today or yesterday about this report, it is a few hours old.
a2 #2) sure it doesn't say the frontrunner but read between the lines, he's going back for a 3rd interview (which is really rare in the NFL), that means they really like him and are more than serious. Also who else are they interviewing? They know what they have in Saturday and if he was the pick why bring back Wink a 3rd time?
This is why I don't like it when posters posts the secondary source. They often get it wrong.

For the same reason they are bringing back others for a 3rd time. He very well may get the job, but the secondary source didn't even quote Leonard correctly.
yep I agree....
Normally, yes - but, and not to get pedantic - "a" frontrunner, by definition, has to be "the" frontrunner. As there is only leader in any race between individual entities.
We should convene a symposium on this topic, I think.
Would be an excellent replacement

You brought me from despair to hope in just a few short posts.
Anarumo is out there because I think his contract is technically up and Bengals are stingy on coaching salaries - and I think he's trying to leverage a nice pay raise after last few years work he's done.
Desai is supposedly trying to get the Broncos job under Payton.
I’m not one for sour grapes but if ever there was a guy who’s gotten a raw deal it’s Steve Wilks.
Only 1 year as Head Coach his first go round with a bust of a 1st round QB in what was then a monster division, follows that up by coaching his ass off in an interim role for a franchise he pretty much came up with as a coach only to not get the nod.
Your argument only makes sense if the Colts do invite others to interview a 3rd time. But right now there are no indications of that, trust me I hope more names drop.
But right now we know they have the incumbent Jeff Saturday and Wink they are bringing back. Based on those facts, it's logical to assume they aren't ready to close the deal with Saturday, or they wouldn't reinterview Wink. And Wink is the frontrunner because they aren't doing a deal with Saturday
So until we hear more names for 3rd interviews, Wink has to be considered the frontrunner i.e. unless he screws up he's the guy the Colts are hoping will win out.
I guess only if "we" is the Indianapolis Colts if and when they've hired Wink Martindale to be their head coach.

I didn't "call you out"... I'm merely pointing out that sites like that routinely get the primary story wrong. BleacheerReport is the worst of the bunch. They are borderline garbage because they can't get it right.
The Colts PUBLICLY announced they were interviewing multiple candidates for a third time. Not just Wink.
It’s not like we dominated on D
I think winkcould have but being a few guys short hurts.
I am sure there are plenty of good candidates out there.
It’s up to daboll to get the right one.
Unless Lou A doesn’t want to be with bengals, he isn’t going anywhere
J Henderson was retained for a reason, he may be next up
Maybe wilkens wants to be his own guy and not follow wink as DC ( u know wink would have influence over colts D)
Same with kafka. Daboll imprint all over this offense. We found out good coaching really helps but as long as the GM/HC around, think we will be fine.
This. At this point it seems intentional, as they have done it repeatedly.
The organization is a little in disarray, and the owner is a volatile, interfering personality.

I hate to agree with Producer. However, while frontrunner by definition implies a definite article, the use of the indefinite article implies more than one. This is a pretty common practice in English grammar. Hopefully, this obviates the need for a symposium.

If he’s the only person getting a 3rd interview as you’re implying, why would they do a 3rd interview instead of offering him the job? No need for a 3rd interview if you’re the only candidate.

Received a PR email today that Wink Martindale is now the betting favorite to be next head coach of #Colts. I'm not a gambler. I don't know if that's the case most places. But that would be a big loss for #Giants and a big gain for Indy.
Wink may look past the issues that the team may have with Irsay.
Could be a mistake. But, it may be his last shot.

You hate to agree with me? My command of the language is as good as anyone's on this board, and it's been a big part of my 35+ year career. Likewise, understanding cultural cues. You are letting a pack of sour grapes howlers color your judgment of my posts, which are clear, consistent and logical, whether you agree with my perspective or not. I grow tired of the groupthink here.
Anyway, you're correct here. I'm obviously right about the use of articles in this instance.

You are welcome to think you are being pedantic, but you're also wrong. There can be a group of frontrunners, as in more than one, therefore "a" frontrunner has a different meaning than "the" frontrunner. Furthermore, if there was only one frontrunner, "a" would be logically incorrect.
If he wants to be a head coach he wants to be a head coach. This might be his last chance. He is completely the opposite of the trend for young offensive minds.
I personally think Steichen is getting the job who’s interviewing today. The Colts ultimately need to draft and develop a QB.
I pay NO attention to Pat Leonard.. NONE.. He is a hack and a total shill. I called him out Twitter on something he wrote, he tried to come back at me telling me I was wrong. and then I provided the exact article with his quote..
Then he blocked me... He is a crap journalist and I would tell him that to his face.
Money isnt the issue.. He has a desire to be a head coach.
So it may be Wink, but he's not THE guy according to many.

should offer more money to keep Wink as Defensive coach. Step up before he is offered the job.

And he literally said he took the giants DC job because he thought it gave him the best chance to get a head coaching job.
Is this inside dope or your opinion?
