that the Giants extend Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley this offseason (via Ryan Clark on The Pivot Podcast)
Paraphrasing…
Stating they are the captains of the team and both were huge reasons why the Giants were successful. They are a huge part of building towards the future.
Exactly. These guys are the heartbeat of the team. People can just sit around and talk about who has the most talent and who is the best deal, but just as important is the player that make the "team" a team. You can get a different player who is close to the same in talent, but the team will be worse
Quote:
If they are not resigned it means ownership does not give a shit and why should the players who will remain bother to care if the owners let the best players walk. It would be a huge mistake if that happens. Barkley and Jones were the heart and soul of the team just like Eli and Strahan.

Saquon has been on the team for many years now, and this is the first time the team didnt suck shit.
Spare me on how great of leaders both he and Jones are. Did they forget how to be leaders when the team sucked shit?

Yes the old one guy should make a team win argument.
Maybe since there are 22 players on your team our there others matter too? However this doesn't mean they dont need stars or leaders. The analysis that because the team had 15-20 lousy players then the 7 other players must not matter is ridiculous. You keep your winners and build around them
Right? If a legend like LeBron James has made so many personnel miscalculations, maybe it's an indication that being a pretty good NFL player doesn't mean much in such matters

The team went 1-5-1 in the division. There is a ways to go in building this roster. Investing a lot of cap space on a oft injured running back, on a second contract, is not necessarily a must move

Oft injured is kind of a stretch. ACL and a high ankle sprain, serious injuries..he played through the shoulder. There is no doubt the team is better with him than without. Of course, it is number dependent.
How about we wait till we can see if he can "extend" his middle finger first? ;)

Section, he missed a lot of time. But my point is, the injuries you refer to, especially the lower body, for a running back, are concerning. He s still very good, and an asset to the team, but he s not the player he once was. Stating it is not a must sign, is not paramount to saying he shouldn’t be signed, just a counter view to the idea he is indispensable

I’m leaning towards letting Barkley walk simply because I don’t value RBs all that much but your take here is one I see often on this site and it’s just fucking lazy. Completely asinine. There have been TONS of players over the years that were outstanding players that played on bad teams. The Rams for example were a terrible team for the first three seasons of Aaron Donald’s career. Joe Thomas played on perennial losers in Cleveland. The list goes on and on. Every great player needs pieces around them, I’m not sure why Giants fans hold Barkley to a different standard when it comes to team success. Although it’s almost unanimously guys that have whined about Barkley since the day he was drafted that parrot this idiotic take. And you of course are one of those guys…
