NFT: Flying between cities in Europe: Anyone use Ryanair?

sb from NYT Forum : 2/4/2023 4:39 pm
Looking at flights from Dublin to Berlin this summer, and it looks like Ryanair has the best flight times-of-day and prices... but I've heard horror stories.

Anyone use it? Should I steer clear? I know it's no frills with lots of added fees for carry-ons etc. But I am thinking that will still be cheaper than other options.

Weirdly there are not a ton of options between Dublin and Berlin.
its basically equivalent of spirit airlines

just be prepared to be nickeled and dimed for everything
I think they were the original Spirit airlines

Poster above is correct.

That being said there are lots of low cost carriers in Europe to choose from: EasyJet, Wow, Wizz, Transavia, Vueling, etc.

I've flown on all of them and survived.
I used to use Ryan air and Easy Jet

All the time when I lived in England to fly between European cities. That was about 15 years ago and it was great for what it was. I just had low expectations like I might not get to sit with my wife, that there would be no food, ext.

Not sure if it is as good today but I used to live it.
Don't have baggage.

Flew them a couple of times when bouncing between European cities. It isn't high class, but whatever. I have a low bar when it comes to airlines: get me off the ground & back on the ground safely.
They even charge you if they have to print you a boarding pass

With phones today, I'm not sure that's much of an issue anymore. Boarding was chaos, absolute scramble by everyone to get on and pick their seats.

I probably wouldn't use them for more than a two hour flight.
I've used in the past

Don't expect much.......cost per lb for luggage.....travel/pack light.

One time I used them for work. The flight was 160 euros, the equipment I needed to bring was 1400 euros.
Also, and not your departure area, but for anyone else....

Heathrow and Gatwick suck to get in/out of. Stansted is the way go to avoid London.

I use them when I fly Faro to London.
It is no frills, you get nickel and dimed but they are ok.
If you are flying during meal time, bring your own food.
not bad for the price

I've used it a bunch of times. My wife is from an underserved city in the EU, and Ryanair is the only airline that flies directly there.

If you're not from an EU or Schengen country, just be aware that you need to get your passport checked by Ryanair themselves to ensure you have a valid visa. They typically only do this at the check-in counter and not the gate.
Thanks for the input everyone!
