either the Cardinals already informed him someone else is their guy or he wasn't a finalist the way the media made it out to be. Has Lou already interviewed twice? If Kafka's not until tomorrow that would be a good sign that they've already settled on Lou

Or they have told people they are going to offer it to Kafka tomorrow--or Flores got wind that it would be someone else and took a life preserver. But, given that it is down to Kafka and Anamuro I am a bit worried. Not that I think Kafka is irreplaceable, I don't--I just want DJ to have continuity.
I like him, but damn. One year call plays and you’re ready to be a head coach? Look at everything Daboll did to get to this spot vs someone like Kafka.
but if it comes down to him and Lou Anarumo, how do the Cardinals pass on Lou? (who also interviewed for our HC job)
Anarumo is apparently not interviewing until Friday. I don't know what to make of that timing - the gap between Kafka and Lou's interviews - if anything.
It is rare that defensive guys get picked these days. They have a QB in a ton of trouble, they are going to go get an offense guy IMO. Lou is probably more deserving and a safer bet, but the trend leads me to believe Kafka.

You'd think, but of the initial three finalists, two were/are defense guys.
In a perverse way, it would crack me up if Mike Kafka got a job before someone like Kellen Moore or Eric Bieniemy. And I know the latter's off the field stuff & maybe both he & Moore are terrible interviewers, but it wasn't like Kafka was overseeing the '99 Rams offense or something. Haha. Sure he gets credit for DJ's development, but I give a lions share of that credit to Dabs.

I agree with your first part about Murray and the trend towards HC who have offensive backgrounds.
I have no idea whether LA is deserving or not.
However, Flores, while a defensive minded guy, did some good work in Miami despite a meddling owner. So, he's got chops. And hiring him would certainly have gone a long way towards defusing his lawsuit against the league.
Look, hiring young guys comes with risk for sure. But it certainly has worked out well with Sean McVey and Zach Taylor.
Moore runs an offense. Bieniemy doesn't. He's a RB coach.
Kafka has worked with Mahomes and worked under both Reid and Daboll. I worry for him because the Cardinals aren't winning in 2023. But if he's their next HC, he could get his choice of QBs in 2024 with Maye and Williams.
Must have gotten another call from belichick. Watch arizona get added to the lawsuit.
The cardinals are stuck with Murray and I suppose that they may want to at least get a coach that can get something out of him. Kafka was brought up under Andy Reid with Mahomes and as offensive coordinator under daboll with Daniel Jones.
being very combustible.
He's better off in Minnesota right now. Repair their defense and enhance his reputation, then back on the HC carousel a year from now.

If true, either that’s a left handed comment to Lou to look elsewhere, or, by spreading it out, they are waiting for after the SB to announce a new, preferred, candidate and just stretching out the process: what have they got to lose?
the OC angle, but we're talking about a guy who was a QB coach a little over a year ago. A head coach has to run the entire show. That's quite a jump.
I have to agree. It’s very odd that Kafka is even getting interviews after only one season as an OC, in which Dabs had his influence on. He must be a very good interviewer. I think the Cards are treading in Giants HC decision waters now. McAdoo, to Shurmur to Judge!

Some folks in NFL think Kafka is the next Andy Reid.
Am a little surprised by the Flores hire in Minny - but I realized I think Flores was on staff when O'Connell passed through there as a player and I think he interned with Pats before getting a low level coaching gig.
I think this job thing is more on his reputation than on this year's body of work. You know football is a weird thing--you never quite know where success comes from because there are so many variables and people involved. The good news for us is that Daboll was part of the successful turnaround on offense in Buffalo with Allen and now seemingly with Jones. What Kafka had to do with it, is anybody's guess besides people on the inside.
Cardinals have demonstrated many times that they don’t know how to
If Kafka ends up the guy in AZ, I think Tierney moves up to the OC spot

That would be logical but Tierney may be too green. Only the HC knows if he is ready. Besides, maybe Daboll wants someone from a different coaching tree who brings a different perspective, like Kafka.

If a team favors an offense-oriented HC it's Kafka over Anarumo.

We ARE talking about the Cardinals here. One of the all time terrible franchises. They make bad decisions all the time.

Minnesota too eventually.
Just a random thought
