Trade deadline closing in still not a ton of chatter around the Knicks other than the rumored jazz deal. I am not in favor of the move to send obi and one first for Beasley and Vanderbilt
I’m Holding out hope they make a move for OG as long as the price is right and if there’s no deal to be made I’d keep it simple at the deadline and go get someone like Eric Gordon or a player of that caliber for a pair of 2nds.
Outside of moving around on draft night, this regime barely makes any trades at all. I wouldn't expect anything noteworthy.
Obi's warts are too exposed in what Tom wants to do out there and he is unable to adapt.
In theory, Beasley and Vandy while not big time needle movers are much better fits. The roster construction will look much closer to what it needs to win sans the final superstar piece. They will probably chose the deal that keeps enough assets to make that final big move.
This. He's 65 years old, has never won a ring and is now 5 games under .500 since 2021-2022 began (66-71), why in the world are we worried about adding pieces to help his system? He should be shown the door in a few months.
woj says fvv most likely to go to either pho or lac and both would be really good fits for him. mann + kennard would be a nice return for toronto especially if they can squeeze out some picks. ive seen it speculated that phoenix cant be too aggressive with their picks right now in case KD hits the market again in the summer, which makes sense to me.
og and siakam who knows but my guess is he'd trade either if he gets his price and keeps either if he doesnt.
- does not rebound well- especially on defense.
- doesn't protect the rim and is a good perimeter defender.
He has great hands, is a talented finisher and can shoot it from 3 - especially this year. But I do think those flaws make him a hard fit and not just for the Knicks.
I would think THIS time they are going to make a move instead of sitting on their thumbs again. Either the Beasley/Vandy deal or OG or maybe a minor to medium surprise move. However the move will just be solidfying the roster in prep for the final chess piece whatever that becomes i.e Booker, SGA, Dame, etc.
A dark-horse candidate....I would think the guy who might be close to asking out behind the scenes is Dame. He has been super patient up there in Portland but they can never seem to get a good performing team around him. His window is quickly closing in terms of being at peak value in a trade too. I doubt it happens by the deadline but who knows....

That was Windhorst with Zach Lowe re: Simmons. They talked about it on the most recent pod
Minutes distribution and having to make the move for OG as the complimentary defensive chess piece to compensate.
Roughly (Brunson and Dame 'only' together 20 minutes, OG the defesive chess piece)
Brunson(32)/Dame(14)/McBride
Dame(20)/Grimes/Quickley/OG
OG/RJ/Grimes
Randle/OG

Same here. He's still overly dramatic and corny but he's clearly tied into the league at high levels and puts the work in.
It was also pretty revealing how accurate he has been on big moves- particularly on the Harden Simmons trade compared to Woj.
Felt like for the longest time he was just always in and around lebron talk. I know he covered him forever but it felt like he was exclusively a mouth piece for his camp.
However the Past few years he’s been on top of a ton of different trade talks and discussions and I’ve enjoyed when he’s on Zach lowes pod.
And if he says something. There’s always some serious smoke to it
agree completely. His podcast is usually pretty good. Seems like he's moved beyond being a mouthpiece for agents (e.g. Woj) and is instead using his contacts and inside info to make best guesses as to what teams may or may not do. He's not quite as good as Lowe (who has a much different approach), but he's better than most of the other clowns out there.
they need good 3 and D guys and Defensive big--- not those 2 so makes sense
Yup, David Aldridge was Woj before Woj
OG and Porter ( salary filler ) for
RJ and Rose plus first rounder protected
Demar Derozan and Patrick Williams for
Obi and Fournier and Hart plus protected first
Reddish for draft capital. 2 seconds?
I want as many three and D players
Derozan and OG gives them that chance to go deep into playoffs
Shams and Woj suck! :)
Demar Derozan and Patrick Williams for
Obi and Fournier and Hart plus protected first
that package wouldn't get you ONE of Derozan or Williams - let alone both of them.

REPORT: The Lakers and Jazz have discussed a deal that sends Russell Westbrook and draft compensation to Utah for Mike Conley, Malik Beasley, and Jared Vanderbilt, via The Athletic.
Wouldn’t expect anything major from the Knicks. They’re still in conversations about Beasley.
Its a good question, i think they have the ammo to make a serious move now and the offseason but the question is, is that player out there?
I think OG is a serious piece you can add but if Toronto is asking for 3 forsts, 2 unportected and a lightly protected plus yoing players, its a lot, even though i thkmk OG is a valuanle piece to add it sprobably to much..
There is some rumbilings that Lavine could be talked about but again what do they want and how much..
I think they need to add a bench wing, even if its a small move, it would at least stabilize the bench...
I know it is hard to fathom, but Porzingis is the perfect fit. Could Hartenstein, Reddish and giving back Washington's pick get it done.
Bulls reportedly asking for *2* firsts for Caruso. So hard pass from me.
"Jamal Collier of ESPN reported Monday that the Eastern Conference team "has been open to listening to offers on the reserve guard." However, it would "likely have to be blown away" by an offer to complete such a move ahead of Thursday's deadline."
Which in my mind is a good thing, no one moves the needle for this season but they need to be active in the summer.
Also to a lesser extent Durant, a team like Phoenix probably wants to hold as many assets as they can to take a run at Durant but at the same time want to improve theor team this year..
Until Toronto makes a deciison or starts making moves, the market is going to be at a standstill
Which in my mind is a good thing, no one moves the needle for this season but they need to be active in the summer.
This is where I am at. The worst thing that could happen is trading young players for pennies on the dollar and/or giving up assets for someone that fits Thibs' system. I honestly hope Thibs keeps up what he does and enough pressure is put on him to replace him. He did his job. He made us more respectable but we are not going further with him. Rip off the band-aid and let a new coach have influence on what we do with our assets moving forward. We need a front office and coach on the same page and that isn't the case.

Is it worth it for NYK to move some of their draft capital to get a bench player that MAY help them make the playoffs? Wouldn’t it be wise to either hold onto it and sell a tad, get a bit more or make a serious move that helps them now and the future?

Lavine imo is worrisome same as OG injury wise. As far as a bench wing, sorry but Reddish not playing at all even 12-15 mins a night as that “bench wing” is awful to not even see if he can be in that role, then go trade assets for one just is bad asset management imo.
Remember us trying to trade for Brunson last year? Just finish strong the season, look to upgrade the coach.
A shame the Nets will never deal him to the Knicks.

I don't know whether that package would do it, and if the Knicks get KP, they should really move Obi. He'd be buried at the end of the bench, and at that point, he's worth a lot more in trade than he is on the roster.

KD is a better teammate and human being than Irving is but he’s a pretty strange dude himself. Not that surprising that he’d gravitate towards another oddball like Kyrie, even if he himself isn’t destructive
& I think a lot of people-myself included-will never give him credit for those 2 Dubs titles, which were weak AF. Is that unfair? Probably, even though he was the best player on the team. But that was/is Steph's team. That's why last year's NBA Finals win/first Finals MVP meant so much to Curry.

Are nets getting a better offer?
It’s never going to happen. It would be like if Aaron Judge demanded a trade and the Mets made the Yankees the best offer. They still wouldn’t do it and he doesn’t want to play for the Knicks anyways. The only possibility (and that’s a strong word) would be if the Knicks somehow won the lottery and traded Wemby for him. Otherwise the Nets could never sell it to their fanbase.

Are nets getting a better offer?
The nets could easily get a better offer than that. Doesn’t matter though- they would never trade him to the Knicks and he doesn’t want to be a Knick.
I guess Toronto can offer Siakim and van fleet but that roster would stink then
I guess Toronto can offer Siakim and van fleet but that roster would stink then
Boston, Memphis, Toronto, Denver, Portland, Phoenix could all top that deal. Even Cleveland if they offered Mobley or Garland could.
I don’t think the Knicks have a high end young player that would be attractive enough to Brooklyn.
And why wouldn’t OKC or NOLA be in on Durant?
Which rumor?
Yeah. And he’s retweet Jordan Peterson, John Stockton, and Jason Whitlock. He’s clearly trying to make a statement. I have no problem with him doing that. I’m Jewish. Wish he would own it instead of just making up some BS reason about why he was disrespected. I’ve had clients that were openly antisemitic and I actually got along well with them because they owned it. Kyrie is such a tool. Never mind that he thinks he’s sophisticated and well read.
Memphis isn’t going to offer bane, morant or jackson so what’s their better offer?
I agree on raptors but nets are probably rebuilding if they trade durant. Not sure they want siakim and van fleet.
Durant isn’t going to OKC or NOLA is my point he will have some say in it. Durant is too powerful to just send him wherever you want.
Suns - ayton has higher upside than rj but Knicks have 7 first rounders and wins have 3. I think RJ Obi with 7 picks beats ayton and 3 picks.
What’s the denver offer?
Bondy claims he'll likely be bought out if he's not traded. Even for Leon Rose being unable to deal Reddish for a late 2nd etc would be something...

Just saw someone else say this on Twitter. It makes 0 sense to not even be able to get a 2 for him. It amazes me how a GM plans to trade a player, but can’t tell the coach to give said player a few games to showcase that he can still play even if just 12 minutes for 2-3 games to garnish value back. In hockey, it happens all the time.
He also said the thinking of not trading KD has shifted for the Nets in the last 48 hours and there is now at least a possibility the Nets will trade him

add in a new owner already leaking (tampering) that they are prepared to make a run at kd and a roster full of compelling pieces, and if there's a team that increases their offer from last summer in-season in a short window i think it's them.
some combo of bridges, johnson, ayton, and all their picks (most post-kd/cp3) is a really strong return that i was surprised the nets didn't just take last summer, but i think the rumors are that phoenix never put their best offer on the table.
boston put jaylon brown on the table last summer and if they did that again with smart that would be another option but i dont see boston doing that since they are already the favorite.
i think the nets want to give it 1 more run with kd and deal with a trade in june but if a really strong offer comes in they should take it and run - but the strength of the offer will come with getting a legitimate top 30 young guy like bridges or brown.
if they know kd is on the market now or maybe in the summer, do they trade 1st for kelly olynyk or naz reid right now? i would guess they are less likely to do so and maybe that makes it easier for the nets to possibly grab one of them.
cam j, ayton, and bridges put on a show. not sure ayton makes sense anymore with claxton emerging but that is by far the best value deal.

You can never say never. But Rose has not forced anything. It's all the rumors, most of which are BS, that make it seem as if he is desperately seeking trades.
If you judge by deeds rather than rumors, Rose has stayed the course, keeping the young core together and letting them grow.

7 FRPs in the next 3 years plus a lot of young tradeable players also mean they can swing TWO moves if they wanted to. One for a solid piece and then another move for a Superstar

there is no way they trade claxton. he's 23, signed cheap for next year, and would open a hole bigger than the one any available player would fill (including siakam). he's the anchor of their d and at this point they are a defense first team.

After tonight’s masterful scoring display down the stretch vs Orlando, Jalen Brunson now has 120 points in “clutch” situations - more than anyone else in the league.
This is to counterbalance Randle's UN clutchness in those late situations. Randle should NEVER be given the ball early in the clock to ISO. It should be Brunson creating either his own shot or setting someone else up he cuts to the basket or is wide open. Randle needs to be a clear 2B in this situation and Thibs needs to enforce that.
Last night, Brunson for 2 straight possessions late after multiple Randle bloopers refused to pass out to Randle . It resulted in a Brunson drive and score and then a Brunson drive and dish to Sims for a dunk.
Anyway, Randle should never touch the ball in clutch situations. He's not that guy. Stop forcing it. It's Brunson. Or try IQ, Grimes, or even RJ.
Best player is not always The Guy in big shot moments. When Giannis needed a big bucket in a playoff game, he gave the ball to Middleton.
Can the Nets as presently constituted really come out the East? I think thats asking alot of Durant. But if you get a full buy in from him for this season and beyond, they have a pretty nice roster and I wouldn't deal him.
He's also 34 years old who is unpredictable to say the least and a constant injury risk. Very difficult decision.
I also can't believe Phoenix is bringing in Isiah Thomas... good lord.
No Nash. No Kyrie. Two huge pluses.
lol at no kyrie being a plus. The dude is amazing at bball. The Nets have no shot as currently constructed.
I dont think so. Would need to see to believe.
I dont think so. Would need to see to believe.
Include Boston in that as well and possibly Miami.
I think the bigger question is if they can reload for next year and be a contender. But if I'm Sean Marks I need an absolute godfather offer before the deadline to pull the trigger.
ESPN Sources: Lakers G Russell Westbrook and coach Darvin Ham had a brief, heated verbal exchange in the halftime locker room on Tuesday vs. OKC. Ham expressed frustration with how Westbrook lingered on the playing floor after getting subbed out of game late in second quarter.
Voices were raised in locker room, but discussion turned back to trying to win game vs. Thunder, sources said. Ham closed game with Westbrook, who had a season-high 14 points in fourth quarter. Ham and Westbrook dapped up prior to leaving arena later in night.
bahahaha.
Certainly possible that things would be magnified in NY simply because there's *more* media in NYC and how the Knicks are sometimes covered differently than other teams (for a variety of reasons). Then again, in the current media landscape everybody is so quick to jump to the next story so who knows.
