I think this is huge as we all know that Wink's defense depends heavily on cornerbacks who can cover and tackle. Apple's John Madden rating is 74 with a man to man archetype attribute. Plus Apple had 41 solo tackles last year so he covers both functions well.
His current contract is under $4M and according to Sportrac his expect annual salary is in the same range at $11.6M.
So who is with me on the Bring Back Eli bandwagon???
He was dependable enough to played 15 or more games in three of the last four years and was tough enough to make 6 tackles each post season game this year. And we all know how bright he is. All you have to do is listen to how his ex-teammates on the Giants talk about him...

You mean talk about him like this?
"There is only one corner who needs to grow up and we all know who that is," Collins said, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. "That would be the only person I would change out of our secondary group. Besides, the other two guys, [Rodgers-Cromarie] and [Jenkins], I love those two guys. They play hard. They love what they do. That first pick...he's a cancer."

Ah ok lol. I got got and missed the sarcasm. Well done haha
Prince was another player who dropped because of "character concerns" and of course the Giants scoop him up.
Cincinnati Bengals CB Eli Apple: Does his play back up the talk?
Just a snippet:
While rookie Sauce Gardner led the NFL with an 88.5 PFF grade at cornerback this season, Apple’s 53.3 mark ranks 68th at a position where only 64 players start.

Over his time with Cincinnati, Apple has earned just a 55.4 PFF coverage and allowed a 101.5 passer rating into his coverage. He has just two interceptions but has been beaten for 11 touchdowns.

ooops, sarcasm over my head too, sorry!
Not sure if the OP was joking or not but, let's say no.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Bengals draft a cornerback to replace the little prick.

They drafted Cam Taylor-Britt and he'll take Apple's job next season.

He is an avg #2 CB so in that vein that is about where he should be ...

He's ranked #68 where only 64 players start.
So, no he's not average, he's way below average.

So in a league that is a passing league and your top THREE CBs are basically starters he is in that group, those are the facts.
