by fast forward I mean adjusted a few years forward with QB contract inflation. If Jones isn't it they will draft his replacement in 2-4 years. That's that. Dak Contract - ( New Window )

Projected

2024 cap $256M
2025 cap $282M
2026 Cap $302M
if that's accurate trying to work this out, if he's getting paid 82m in the first 2 years but the first 2 year cap hits (19m+38m) add up to 57m, that means that there's another 25m of signing bonus cash not yet accounted for on the cap.
im not positive but i think that equates to the overall signing bonus being $50m which would mean first 2 years are:
50m sb
6.5m base + 12.5m sb = 19m cap number
25.5m base + 12.5m sb = 38m cap number
that's the guaranteed 82m and would leave 78m cash left to be paid as salaries in year's 3 + 4. split evenly that would mean the last 2 years = 51.5m aav but id guess it's 49m/54m or something like that. it sounds like there's also a trigger that guarantees some of the year 3 money which is why i'd guess that one is more manageable with the 4th year being a true balloon option year (and they intend to be on to a new contract by then).
not positive that all works out but i guess we'll find out tomorrow.

corrected, the 2026 cap hit is 52M in the scenario.
I should do dead money and cap savings as well

2025 dead 32M pre June 1 cap savings 14M

There is a painful out after 2 years.
Realistically, they would have to stick with him for 3 at which point this becomes a 3 year contract for 127M.
Seems like quite a bit more than Smith or Car got.

Haven't followed all your numbers since just getting back to the board, but once the $94M figure came out it was a pretty simple back-of-the-envelope to break the remaining $66M of the $160M in half and ballpark the deal as:
“Leap of faith” that he will improve, otherwise they are screwed the next few years anyway. It’s essentially a 3 yr 40+ million/yr contract. That’s fair and gown his age, roughly market value. It will be a very reasonable contract after the other guys have signed for more. (Hurts , Herbert , Burrow, Jackson).
much money he makes or what his cap hit is or if his incentives are reachable.
What matters to me is that the General Manager and the Head Coach thought that he is good enough to sign for 4 years and a truckload of money. Those two guys have shown to me that they have a keen sense of a player's value. So, when the guy on the couch keeps saying how much Jones sucks and why, I'll keep in mind that two guys who have been in the business of football for a long time thinks Jones is pretty darned good.
I’d been hoping to see a number in the $15-20mm range. If Jones returns to pre-break-out form, that will be a major obstacle for the franchise.
He’d better continue to improve.
Nice work McL and others.
I like the contract generally but that level of guarantees is a downside.
2025 cap will likely be much closer to 300m after the Google/YT money kicks in. Youtube is paying ~500m more per year than DirectTV was. 32 dead cap is rough, but not insurmountable if they want to move on. Eagles carried ~$34m in dead cap for Wentz against a $182m cap. They ripped the bandaid off and were able to move on. Ideally scenario is that Jones plays well, but if not it provides a window to move on.
I am confident that the decision to keep and pay Jones was made based on the Giants' evaluation of his talent, his demonstrated physical skills, his personality, his leadership qualities, and in my opinion most importantly, his ability to perform under pressure.
IMO the only stats the Giants were looking at was the won-lost record with DJ at QB.

Barkley & Jones.
:)
I wonder if this will endbup as a 3 year deal with a hugh ballon payment in the 4th year....that either must be renogitated or cut?
The extra incentives are like winning the NFC conference, winning Super Bowl....which we would be happy to do.
They are probably not likely to accomplish types.
But if achieved make the contract a bargain

I really don't think it will be something to worry about. This deal works for both sides. And I'm not crazy about committing based on 'upside'.
I am glad we have a viable GM, HC, OC, DC, QB, RB, LT, NT, ER1, DT, ER2, FS, CB1. I believe in Neal as well so many vital pieces are here.
This is the position you want to be in, building a team with all these pieces in place.
