No he really won't. He'll play next year at age 33 if he doesn't retire. He's starting to show signs of slowing down. 3-year low yards, yards/reception, and touchdowns. The yards/reception has declined in each of the last 2 seasons and sank to a career-low.
What he's losing is also the key to his success...the quick separation ability out of his breaks. I expect he has another year, maybe two in the NFL, and I wouldn't be fully against him here, but only at the vet minimum with some incentives. Perhaps a little extra because I think he could be a good locker room guy.
But he's not a more desirable free agent WR than JJSS, Beckham, or Meyers, easily.

Or maybe it's Justin Jefferson's presence.
I'm not sure how that would be a negative to Thielen. It should be quite the opposite the amount of defensive attention Jefferson commands. It certainly wasn't a negative for him when he was playing with Diggs.
Anyway, to my eye it looked like he had lost a step this year when I watched him play the few times I did. He just didn't look like the same receiver I remembered in those great seasons with Diggs.
The fat lady hasn't sung, but she's warming up.
My buddy lives just south of Minneapolis and he told me yesterday
that Jefferson is always demanding the ball and that has cut into Thielen's receptions.
Adam is a good guy and doesn't complain.
My buddy feels like he has several good years in him and is an impeccable route runner. He thrived under Case Keenum because after the initial route, he would find the soft place in the zone to get open, grab the pass and convert some YACS.
With Cousins, he is more a one route WR which reduced some effectiveness.

Him and just about every great receiver, ever.
At any rate, Jefferson gets more defensive attention than any receiver in the NFL. Possibly the only other guy that does his work as a receiver that gets as much attention is Travis Kelce.
Everything you guys are saying may be true about the reasons for Thielen's reception totals declining. However, that doesn't explain career-low yards/reception and yards/target. Further, he was at a 4-year low in catch %. If what you're saying is true, and with the attention Jefferson receives, he should be at or near career-highs with these numbers. He's almost 33 years old. It's not that he sucks, he doesn't, just that Father Time is undefeated.
Giants should sign this guy right away for the right $$
The best season of Thielen's career was the year Cousins came to Minnesota, 2018. Yeah, he had a good year in 2017, but not as good as with Cousins the very next year.
RE: Giants should sign this guy right away for the right $$
Ask yourself why the 3rd WR, Osborn nearly paced Thielen despite starting half the time as Thielen:
Osborn played in 17 started 9 games:
60 catches on 90 targets
10.8 YPC
5 tds
Thielen played in 17 started 17 games:
70 catches on 107 targets
10.2 YPC
6 tds
HE might have a tough month or so in him. And if we didn't have 35 slot WRs on the roster already who are better and younger and cheaper, maybe I would sign off, but there's no need for an older fading slot WR like this. He was being phased out for good reason and did nothing down the stretch for Minny. Link - ( New Window )
but one that fits this guy other than to a vet minimum. He is fading and at 700 yards in 17 games last year, I can't think of a better term than "hard pass."

Ehh he's not nearly the player he used to be. Kind of cooked. I can see him being out of the league in 1-2 years.
