“Giant” Spenders?

bigfrank612 : 3/12/2023 12:07 am
This account has been solid in the past with Giants information. My guess, if they’re correct again, they spend on an Inside Backer and Corner. Just my guess tho.

Legal tampering period doesn't start until Monday

Are there any top free agents available now that they could be talking about? Sounds more like wishful thinking as I don't think JS would jump the gun and open himself up to a tampering charge.

The illegal tampering period started at the combine though. LOL.
Don't forget

anyone that has been cut, the Giants can negotiate with them now. Plus, they do not count towards the Comp pick formula.
Giants don't have

Any worthwhile FA's to cancel out the Comp pick formula to worry about signing comp picks. Who is a FA from the Giants last year that is going to sign any worthwhile contract?

This year that shouldn't matter for Giants. It will matter for a team like the Eagles.

It depends what you mean by worthwhile, but Slayton and Love will likely get decent money
that

would be somewhat surprising if true.

I hope not. Don't go on a drunken spending spree. Build through the draft. Look @ 2016...doled out a ton of coin for a short term fix.

That said, I have faith in Schoen to be responsible.

I thought Love was likely to return. And Slayton contract will be modest at best. He's going to get cancelled out even if we are shopping not at the top of the market.
I don’t think people
Sammo85 : 3/12/2023 9:50 am : link
should interpret that they’re going to go swing big at top of market. Likely they will be active but in second and third tier classes. They need to fill some spots.

Only place I would spend “big” to big
Saquon'sQuadz : 3/12/2023 10:55 am : link
would be at finally getting a linebacker who they can rely on. Other than that, I would keep building through the draft
“Early and often” isn’t likely, at least until Barkley’s tag goes away
Ivan15 : 3/12/2023 11:06 am : link
I would be surprised if the Giants sign more than 1 free agent in the first round of free agency. Even the top free agent signing likely won’t be a high visibility player, just someone they feel real good about and he feels good about the Giants and/or NY area. I could see the Giants signing a few cap casualties over the next few months if they don’t find what they need early.
I think they’ll target
Breeze_94 : 3/12/2023 11:35 am : link
One of the 3-4 better ILB’s on the market. TJ Edwards seems to be gaining a ton of steam from the beats. I’ve also heard not to rule out Edmunds, Pratt.

We’ve heard rumblings about TE - my hunch is Gesicki or Irv Smith. Schultz is going to get top dollar but he is the pipe dream for me. Very underrated player and he’s the perfect “safety blanket” type for DJ (and he can block).

Center- don’t think they’ll go top of market here and it could be as simple as bringing back Gates then targeting one in the draft

WR- expect them to shop at the scrap heap here. Even guys like Paris Campbell and Hardman are going to get PAID. Shep could be back for a vet min deal. Then they will cluster draft WR’s in the draft. The other option- instead of overpaying in FA- is a trade for Gave Davis if Buffalo decides to move on.

DL- Think they’ll add a nice rotational piece here and a vet min type as well.
Ogunjobi,, Nathan Shephard, etc.

CB- Anthony Averett? Fabian Moreau? Doubt they make a run at Jamel Dean although he’d be a perfect CB for Wink and great heir to Jackson

that's interesting
Eric on Li : 3/12/2023 11:41 am : link
it's certainly possible. they artificially lowered jones year 1 by more than i would have thought, and with the high year 2/low year 3 id imagine they structure the other extensions they do to align with that.

i.e. if they extend lawrence id guess next year (2024) is artificially low when jones is artificially high and 2025 is then artificially higher while jones is artificially lower.

thomas and mckinney will probably follow suit with lower years when jones is high (2024) and higher years when jones is low (2025).

Didn’t the Giants get a comp pick for Lorenzo Carter? It seems you can get a comp pick for just about anyone.
I think only a LB factors into their long term plans
AcesUp : 3/12/2023 1:46 pm : link
But they’ll be extremely active on a lot of short term deals and mostly of the bargain variety. I can see one of those short term deals on a pass catcher hitting that 10 range though.
