Keep an eye on the Giants pre draft TOP 30

YANKEE28 : 3/12/2023 10:39 am
Prior to the draft and following the Combine, all NFL teams are allowed private visits of up to a maximum of 30 players leading up to draft night.

The exact list for each team is known to the NFL offices as well as all NFL teams. However, teams do not openly announce TOP 30 visits. We do hear about them from agents and prospective drafted players when they answer questions from reporters.

So far this year, we know of two players that the Giants have TOP 30 visits:

DL Gervon Dexter Sr- Florida
QB Hendon Hooker- Tennessee

Last year, fans were able to learn thru various reports of 17 of the Giants TOP 30 visits, and one of them was Cordale Flott, who was eventually drafted on Day Two.

So its information worth following over the next few weeks.

Schoen was annoyed last year that the NY media covered these visits, unlike in Buffalo.
I think the interest in Hooker is real,

I just wonder where they pull the trigger.

That is not correct.

The Giants meeting with Hooker was just scheduled. It has not yet happened.

I think Hooker would be a VG hedge and a future replacement for TT. I could see him in the 3rd round. He will be out for 2023. But some other team may be interested in bringing him in to start the process.

Totally agree. Even if DJ turns into what they hope injuries happen and they need a future backup. It could be a great acquisition.
Hendon Hooker was mentioned as a potential target during
arniefez : 3/12/2023 11:18 am : link
the college season and I s**t all over it several times. That was before he got injured. I think the TN offense is a gimmick that is very difficult to project to the NFL. Plus he's the same age as Daniel Jones who has already played 4 NFL seasons.

Shows you what I know.

I hope if they decide to draft him it's not until at least the 3rd round. If they choose him earlier then that, IMO it would be quite a statement after just resigning DJ.
pray someone saves the Giants from themselves
BigBlueCane : 3/12/2023 11:27 am : link
and takes Hooker before Schoen does.
I do think the Giants are going to draft a QB
Rudy5757 : 3/12/2023 11:55 am : link
At some point. Need a cheaper backup than TT. Better to groom a draft pick this year for next for cost control.
davis webb moving on is a tell that they probably plan to draft a qb
Eric on Li : 3/12/2023 11:58 am : link
this year in the later rounds to groom to takeover for tyrod.
Hooker was in the last Jeremiah top 50
cosmicj : 3/12/2023 12:05 pm : link
I think he goes in the 2nd rd and the Giants dont select him.

qbs after the 1st are unpredictable, i think sam howell was in the dj top 50 at one point last year and even discussed as a nyg option then ultimately went mid day 3. i think willis was in there too.

id agree that hooker probably goes day 2 to someone but as an overrager who probably also needs a RS year i could see him falling. in the 4th round or maybe even with the chiefs pick id consider it.

That would be GM malfeasance
Tom from LI : 3/12/2023 12:18 pm : link
to draft any QB this year with all the holes on this team.

You still have TT this year. Draft one next year where the holes will not be so glaring.

Hooker
Mdgiantsfan : 3/12/2023 12:20 pm : link
I wouldn’t be disappointed if they drafted Hooker. Age for a QB should not be a deterrent. QBs are proving to have very long careers. He’d be a good qb to back up DJ while also hopefully keeping just enough “pressure” on DJ despite the freshly minted contract. Not that I think DJ willlack the drive but I think a young gun would add a little pressure especially if he proves to have the goods to push for a starting gig. If the latter is true you now have a valuable chess piece.

you realize that they have like 7 day 3 picks including 2 fifths, 1 sixths and 3 sevenths so it's enormously likely that a few of them end up getting cut to PS right?
agree with Eric
Dave on the UWS : 3/12/2023 12:29 pm : link
Taylor will NOT be resigned for 24, so one of those extra late picks will go to a QB who needs work. Cheaper backup for 2024.

BloggingtheBoys has an article tracking every year that updates all the players that are invited plus all the Dallas area invitees. And every year the majority of Dallas draft picks are on this list. It has not seemed to have hurt them.

If the giants pass on the next Tom Brady or Brock Purdy bc of “all the holes on this team,” it would be gm malfeasance.

was one of the finest local high school players (Don Bosco) in the past decade.

His career at Syracuse was less then what was expected, but he had a great final college year at Illinois and is very likely to be drafted on Day Three.

Last week he had an extremely impressive Pro Day with many NFL scouts and coaches in attendance.

I wish he was a little bigger, but he overcomes that with his arm strength and mobility. He could be a great Giants option with one of their 3 picks in round 7.
Hooker is a helluva person AND player
shocktheworld : 3/12/2023 1:13 pm : link
but an even better human than football player…(and he’s a pretty dang good football player). With that said… Clayton Tune from Houston in the 5 or 6th would be a slam dunk… use a late pick or “ lottery ticket” on Tune and he has the AA and smarts to be a very good QB in Dabs system. Tough ✔️ Smart ✔️ Dependable ✔️

thought Schoen said that only a day three QB was now likely, but I may be mistaken. I'm not a Hooker fan, but wouldn't hate using one of our thirds on him. I'd be happier with someone like Tune on day three who could replace Taylor after this season.

Teams carry 3 QBs. There’s a job opening there. A later round pick saves money vs a guy on a vet minimum.
Yes they seem to take the opposite approach
mittenedman : 3/12/2023 3:49 pm : link
as Reese, who brought in guys he had questions about.

The Giants had private visits with Thibs, Neal and Flott last year, and Schoen went to Thibs Pro Day.
