per conference in the playoffs?
This was the second year since the NFL started doing it this way and I actually think I like this current format more since they switched from 16 games to 17 and added a team on each side.
What do you think? Like or .... do not like?
-But-
I do fear for the players safety and health. Get rid of Thursday night and the 17 games would not be so bad.
I do like the 7 teams in the playoff.

Same I LOVE the second seed doesn't get a bye
That said, the move to 18 games is inevitable. But the NFL cares so much about the health of its players...(rolling eyes.)
Yeah. They don't care about anything but money lol
2. Let's be real here you have more of a chance to see your team make the playoffs
3. I like that the number two seed doesn't get a first round bye anymore. I LOVE that actually.
4. The season ends later. By the time Super Bowl is over with I am reminded Valentine's Day is even a thing. I know it's only a week later but remember when the playoffs ended in January?
5. 3 games in a day on wild card weekend? I think there was a MNF game this and last year too.
Regarding number 3. I think there was a year where the divisional round in the AFC set itself up where the #1 seed Titans had to play a 11-5 WC Ravens team and the #2 Steelers got to play an 8-8 team Chargers team. 2008? I thought that was stupid. Chargers won their division so they were the higher seed despite losing 3 less games than the Ravens.
There are some teams who have 9 home games and others who have 8. That is not fair.
This issue is further compounded by games on neutral sites.
Some teams lose a home game when games are played on a neutral site.
The NFL must do something about this.
There may come a time when every team plays one game on a neutral site.

The 9/8 thing is at least conference-specific: one year the NFC gets 9 home games, the next it gets 8. So it's not ideal but I don't see it as a competitive issue.
I would like to see two bye weeks if we go to 18 games. Frankly I'd like to see two bye weeks already. I feel like there's enough inventory that there shouldn't be an issue having 2 bye weeks, with one preceding a team's Thursday night game as a rule.
I *really* dislike 7-seeds in the playoffs. I liked it when two teams per conference got a bye.

Actually either all NFC teams have 9 home games scheduled or all AFC teams have 9 games scheduled. Though you are correct that a home game can end up in a neutral site like London.
The real playoffs start with the divisional round.
I think ultimately they will go to a 18 game schedule but will have to agree on 2 bye weeks and expanded rosters and eliminate all preseason games.
The inter conference games would become a semi preseason, but they count. Kinda like college teams scheduling their first three games out of conference.

Hate regular season games played outside the US.
The season lasts too damn long.
Too many teams make the playoffs. Every year there are a few teams in the playoffs that don't deserve to be there. How does one game over .500 make a playoff team?
I've been watching pro football since 1955, watched a TON of it in the 50s through the 90s, but now the NFL has basically lost me as a fan. I am now watching less NFL football than ever and don't watch any except GIANTS of Bills games.
Most Sundays I simply have something better to do, like changing the air in my vehicle tires or working on my anti-gravity machine.
4 teams in a Euro division? Think long term, 32 new teams in the Euro League, the Asian League, and the Central/South American League. Then a four league champions playoff. 128 teams until expansion to Africa. It’s inevitable.

I'd love to hear your take on a quick summary of the kind of football you saw in each decade from 50s to 90s.
Same thing with the NHL games in a baseball/football stadium. Boring.
Baseball is fine, I guess. I could live without it though. Kind of a drag after hockey is done and baseball is the only thing going on during the dreadful summer days.

agree.
I'll bring that one up next time there is a Daniel Jones argument on BBI that he hasn't won any big games.
See you all in 30 or so seconds.
I don’t want more football I want better football.
The season does kind of sprawl, though, with two bye weeks.
Diluting what product exactly? Wasn't it just last year everybody was screaming to the highest heavens how great the quality of all the playoff games were? Or was it this year? I simply cannot remember.
This year's Super Bowl and last year's were pretty entertaining, if you ask me.
Also the one extra away game doesn't bother me. I actually like away games more than home ones. I have a chance to see the Giants this upcoming year in Vegas. More access and mroe control.

Good post.
Alas, the NFLPA is too inept to realize how much leverage they have. Instead, they continue to line-up and drink the dupe flavored Kool-Aid the owners keep selling...

I can only speak for myself but I explained it in my last post. Injuries seem way up and heading into the playoffs you had two 3rd string QBs (Purdy/Thompson) starting their games and no Lamar Jackson. And that’s just the QBs. Add up all the other players out due to injury on top of it.
17 games is too much when the league pretends like player safety is important. And TNF is an absolute joke, the games usually stink and players end up sitting out when banged up instead of likely playing if they had a full week of rest.
It’s unfair to the players and it’s unfair to fans. And the more games you add to the schedule and playoffs, the less important it all becomes. The NFL used to be about urgency and now it’s just about surviving. Not a good trend IMO.
The old format was much better with 30 teams. You hardly ever saw a team with an 8-8 record make the playoffs. I think there were two in the 80s who were below .500 when there was a lockout. Nothing I can do about it.
Also, you had Foles vs Keenum 5 years ago in the NFCCG and Blake Bortles on the other side so it's not as if there haven't been years where backups or backup type QBs are visible late in the playoffs. Why bring up the Miami game? I actually thought they kept up with overrated Buffalo pretty well in that one. Purdy was on the winning side against Dallas the round before he was injured.
