Is ILB Denzel Perryman a Giants FA option?

YANKEE28 : 3/12/2023 11:14 am
Perryman indicated yesterday, that rather then re-signing with the Raiders, he wants to explore his FA option.

His last contract was reasonable-2 years and a total of $6 million.

He just turned 30 and in 2021 he led the NFL with 154 tackles and made the Pro Bowl. Throughout his college (Miami) and pro career, he has always been a tackling machine.

Depending on what the other FA ILB's are looking for in contract size and length, Perryman on another reasonable 2 year contract might be a Giants option.
he's a better version of j davis

but he's also somewhat injury prone. also a little redundant bc he's better against run than coverage. great instincts and knockback though if the price is reasonable.

This, he would be an upgrade over what is currently on the roster but he is not the type of ILB the Giants need. They need an ILB that can cover TE's and that has the speed and range to get to the outside.

Signing a 30 year old LB to anything longer than 1 year is really

Trying to squeeze the last bit of juice out of a lemon. Perryman sounds like one of a long line of LBers from the U. Remember Beason? I consider coverage skills to be the least of the criteria for an inside backer. As long as an ILB can fill the holes in a 3-man front, rush the passer and drop into a zone, he is okay by me. Being able to also actively cover a TE or RB means you have a Pro Bowler.
One ILB

that I liked in the draft that is about to hit the FA market is Drue Tranquill. Tranquill seems like a natural fit in Wink's scheme as he is a very effective blitzer.

this year is one of the better years to have a need at ILB i can remember. david, edmunds, edwards, long, tranquill, wagner, pratt, okereke, vander esche, al-shaair, kyzer white. don't know which one they will choose but id imagine just like glowinski they will very quickly get someone this regime is somehow familiar with and slot in a starter.
Again another high priced signing for an older player

Like TJ Edwards better. Both younger and probably cheaper. Good player and hurts Philly.

if i had to guess who was most likely would probably be him. as a udfa he was probably signed originally by brandon brown in philly.
We definitely need a run stopper

And a coverage LB. Petty man may be looking for a big score coming off the pro bowl though.

Good point. Hadn’t thought of that.

an option could be adding 2 lower cost players vs 1 more expensive player.

al-shaair and kyzir white are sideline to sideline guys who will probably get 1 year prove it deals in places with favorable depth charts so they can earn bigger deals next year. maybe you add one of them plus a perryman as the 2 penciled in starters with davis, beavers, mcfadden competing behind that?
I lost any interest

I would be surprised if we didn’t sign one of the top 5 guys on list
Tranquill is like a blake Martinez type to me. Not great but I do see him flash everytime I see chargers
I thought blake was real solid in 2020. If we can match that, would be a win
Stick with the young productive players in FA
Simms11 : 3/12/2023 1:59 pm : link
I think the Giants have done fairly well in the past focusing on the young, productive types. There’s still game in their bodies and some are ascending players, as well.
