The #Giants are expected to re-sign free agent WR Sterling Shepard to a new deal, per sources. Longtime Giants staple will continue his career in New York.
but probably not in a player capacity. This is a heart over mind decision. And I get that.
That said, it doesn't sound like much of a risk if he can get back on the field, stay there, and be any semblance of what he was. I just don't see that happening. Love to be wrong. He is a great kid, and what's happened to him is terrible.
Unless you want to spend money at the position, they're going to have a couple of these guys competing for a spot in camp, won't all be rookies. You may as well do right by a guy respected in the locker room on a non-guaranteed contract. If he can even return to last year's form he's likely to earn a spot too and be an upgrade over James. If he doesn't, he's not likely to make the team and factor anyway.
then its a plus signing. People complaining just to complain. You are going to have a bunch of young receivers. You need a VET in the room to teach them how to do things...
I don’t think some of you guys realize how good of a leader Shep is. As Schoen said in his presser, “love Shep. Juice guy”. Totally fine w/ this for the vet min.
Not questioning his leadership ro anything like that. Fact is this guy just cant stay on the field and that is frsutrating cause he is of no use on the sidelines all the time
The guy hasn’t been healthy in forever. Unless it’s for the Vet minimum I think it’s a bad move. I’m ok with it at the vet minimum but man we need to get away from the perennial injury players.
Wwell, we sign, and draft, plaers every year. they all get hurt. In what way, that being the case, does getting rid of injured players then make sense? I mean, we've been doing it. It's not like dumping injured players would be a new and novel approach. I no way does bringing in more players make them uninjured. we litterallt draft and sign people with no injury histories and they get hurt here. how exactly you " get away" from injured plaers, we all, management included, would like to know. Pretty sure we've given the 'ole "dump the injured player" thing fairly heavy usage. It's not some novel approach. Been there, done that. The whole wish away the pain thing isn't working.
addition to his achilles tear and ACL injury, he's had multiple concussions. He should retire for his own health, and since he wouldn't get an offer from another team, the Giants can effectively force him into retirement by refusing to resign him.
Who are you to tell another man he should retire from doing something he’s been medically cleared to do? Guy wants to continue doing what he loves. Its his risk to take.
and if healthy he would be a bargain if not even more than that. Sure its's a question mark but signing some slob to the same type of deal is an even bigger question mark and that's being kind.
I highly doubt the Giants are putting any eggs in this basket. It's a low risk move with upside.
He's not worth the roster spot when chances are he doesn't last half the season.

They are good friends, I think this is a recruiting signing.
Bite your tongue!
Don't be surprised when it happens, and I'm all for it.
Just have a healthy year, Shep!
