Dave Gettleman splash signings that lead to nowhere path.
They have a ton of cap room and a ton of draft picks. They're in a good position to make vast improvements to the team. If they're right about Justin Fields they could be a contender within a year or two.

Not a good idea to spend money just because you have it. I’m sure they have players on first contracts they will want to re-sign. The build through FA stuff pretty much never works out unless it’s a contender with a few holes to fill.
Guys like CJ Gardner Johnson and Poyer were supposed to be top of the market w/Bates; J Johnson got released; Rowe, Amos, Joyner, McCourty all solid guys. If he's reasonable $, I'd love to keep him. If not, we can find another FA, draft, or the Giants seem to like the the rookies from last year (tho I'd prefer a vet, and I think the market will have a few guys go for small $).
Oops. My bad.

Have to think about the chance they approach Julian Love and make an offer.
We know they grabbed Michigan's S Daxton Hall with last year's #1 pick, but they probably are searching for a veteran as well.
