Can you make the case that drafting a LB in the first 3 rounds will still make sense?
Or are there just too many other holes to fill at WR,IOL,CB TE
If so,who do you see as a good fit,if available?
if we drafted one early. unless say jack campbell fell to the 3rd. i think we have good in house options for the 2nd mlb with mcfadden, davis and beavers coming back.

This. Now with a young vet headliner to lead our LB core along with so many subpackages that Wink likes to use , I highly doubt we see any sort of non-EDGE LB prior to round 4 or 5 with all our other needs.
them from drafting a guy they liked with a premium pick.
At first glance the need/value doesn’t look to be there at #25 for LB. I’m still guessing we will see a “pass catcher”, possibly Kincaid or one of the WRs at 25 or a corner.
Looks like there will be some LBs in the mix in rounds 2 and 3.
is a guy I have been pounding the table for.....he is a perfect fit next to Okereke....due to TS's speed and his ability to cover backs and slot recievers.
If he is there at 57,i would hope they snag him
I don't think it will have much of an impact on the draft.
Frees up the top picks for the WR/CB picks that are too expensive in FA. And I would think a DL is a strong possibility for another FA acquisition taking that off the table in day 1/2 as well.
We need a starter @ WR 2 really. Starter @ CB. he is the starting ILB Beavers is coming off injury s last season was a redshirt and it is a major injury he might not be the same (brign him back slow). We have guys that can be depth already. As I have said 1 thru 3 1st 4 picks I would like 2 WRs and 1 CB. My 4th pick was ILB or IOL. So now 2 WRs, 1 CB, 1 IOL. BPA rest of the way we have so many holes or depth needs we cant go "wrong". It has been a good FA so far. Depth DT, starting ILB, Jones and SB, Love? ... the P contract I hope the details are team friendly. Having to find a C in the mid rounds lines up strategically for my draft ideas. If we double deep on both WR and CB.
I like having more picks ... but moving from rd 2 back into the last pick of the 1st rd for cap mgt would be nice.
A pick at ILB anymore. If good value is there we can take one but I think we will be alright with Beavers, McFadden and Jarrad Davis. Maybe a low cost over 30 vet we could bring in
RE: I don't think it will have much of an impact on the draft.
I figure they'll do what they did last year...look for good value at LB on Day 3 and beyond.
I think it will be a major impact. Combined with their other DL signing, i think they can say they have made real progress towards adressing defense weakness against the run, and can consequently use the first pick on a skill position, which is really where it belongs. They can grab a WR, CB or edge rusher. This is wise, and the best use of our top picks.
ILB was a position that HAD to be addressed, they've done it, and with 11 picks, they can do so again, but now aren't forced to do so early on. I think it gave Schoen & the Giants a lot of flexibility, as did signing Jones and Barkley.
Giants are now kind of in a position to maximize the value they get out of the assets they have to build, be it cash or draft picks, which is good because they do have a great many needs. It will be good to be able to expend their assets where they think they can get the best return on their investment and the most bang for the buck, so to speak.
What they've done so far is give themselves options whilst moving to adress some of their biggest question marks., like QB, RB, & run defense. They still have a long list of issues and probably can't solve them all, but should be able to make sound instead of forced decisions.
With one good year being added to an abysmal LB group wouldn’t make them abandon the need to upgrade LB, even if he ends up being the same guy he was last year. They need talent at the position.
With all of our picks (and a willingness to move around) going BPA at a need position each round still won't fill everything. About the only thing Okereke signing does is if an ILB and some other position have the same ranking on our board and there is a greater drop off at ILB we don't HAVE TO draft the ILB.
I think the Giants will use FA for non-premium positions (comp-wise not importance) like LB, OG, C and stick to the draft to find young guys rather than doling out massive contacts. I know everyone thinking WR and CB are where we’ll go in round one but it’s deep there in this years draft and I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to find a better Edge defender who is stout against the run to play opposite KT.
I wanted to see the Giants prioritize defense in free agency. They needed a better backup at DT and a starting-caliber LB. So far, so good. We'll see what they do at DB, especially if they let Love walk. I never thought they'd wait until the draft to look for a LB who could make an immediate impact, so signing Bobby O wasn't a surprise. Not signing him (or any LB) would have had a major impact on their draft. Signing him allows them to stick with what I believe their plans are for the draft, at least in terms of top priorities.
Which is fine as there are probably only a few guys we would consider. Sanders and Campbell struck me as two guys that fit here but I imagine we'll prioritize other needs of similar value where they are likely to land. They were very high on Beavers too, so having Okereke anchor the unit with a guy like Davis who can at least spot start allows you to bank on him a little bit. Think Beavers compliments Okereke very well as he's perfect for those MLB responsibilities freeing up Okereke to take on more a WILL backer role. Day 3 is always live for LBs though considering how often they contribute on specials.
And that will allow us to work on other holes in the draft. I agree with posters who say we will not likely draft another LB in the first 2 days. Looking for WR, OL, CB and DL.
will go by their board. Of course skill position players may take a priority, but if a LB or ER is clearly the best player at 25 or 57, then that will be who they pick.
Because FA first was the plan all along. And if another LB shows great value when they’re on the clock, that’s part of the plan as well. But probably not until day 3.
Did anyone predict Wan'Dale Robinson, Josh Ezeudu and Cordale Flott?
Maybe the positions. No way anyone came close to hitting that Day 2 trifecta of names.
Glowinski didn't prevent the Giants from drafting a guard they liked at 67. Okereke won't rule out a linebacker late in the third round. I realize the second inside linebacker isn't a full-time player, but he might get more snaps if he didn't suck. Besides, a third-round rookie probably won't start right away.
There's room on the roster. Smith is probably gone. Brown and Coughlin couldn't get on the field amid last year's mess, so calling them vulnerable might be an understatement.
The idea is not to just get solid players in your front 7. If you can add another upper tier ILB you do that imv if the value is present in whatever round.
We got 1 so my guess is we are looking for another in the draft.
Hard to tell if Beavers was playing like a starter or just better then our other options last year pre injury.
Reading into where they were drafted Beavers and McFadden seemed like they were brought in to be Depth/ST/ sub package guys.
So I wouldnt rule out LB early, but think we would target CB/WR over it.
I would like to see a guy like Charlie Thomas late, can play the type of hybrid role Collons did in nickel/dime looks but more LB first
I really liked what I saw from Beavers I wonder how much confidence they have that he will be healthy this season...
We won't be needing a TE in the early rounds with Waller on board
